View Full Version : Help settle a disagreement!

A buddy of mine and I are looking at some old hands and this one we disagree on.

My first recommendation would be to fold preflop, we'll just assume the call button was clicked by mistake though. The disagreement is over the proper river play. Thoughts?

Very difficult without a read.

Although I tend to think most players are going to grumble under their breath while calling a raise on the river.

Therefore, fold.

Fold. I can't believe he raised there.

Oh, and I raise the flop, with the intention of taking a free card on the turn if needed.

And come to think of it, if you are going to try to raise him off the pot, I'd do it with a flop raise, and then a turn bet if checked to.

hero folds.
ooops hang on - hero is ahead of 76, 75, 73, 72, 65, 63, 62, 53, 52, 33, 32 and 22. Thats heaps of hands why not raise.

BTW - dont just change the Hero raises to ???? without removing the color tag /images/graemlins/wink.gif

call flop.
not sure why there is a debate on the river. smallish pot. i guess if you knew villain was a weak tight rock and would fold to any aggression you could try it.

small straights are only good in yahtzee.

Anything other than folding the river sucks. If you raise he won't fold nearly often enough to make it profitable and if you call... well... congratulations. Honestly I'm not sure where the debate is here.

What do you have against therapists?

Call the flop, fold the river.

can u explain just calling the flop. I raise most flush draws on the flop and want to know what I'm doing wrong.

You can't raise since you could possibly drive out all other action, leaving it heads up. If you do that, you've gone from a raise for value (putting in 33% of the money vs. 35% to make your draw) to one that's unprofitable (putting in 50% of the money vs. 35% to make your draw).

Now if it had been bet, called, and the action was to you it would be correct to raise.

ahh i see. let me try... a raise here would face the field with 2 cold, which i dont want to do with my flush draw. If it was bet and called, i could trap the field for 2 bets, for value.

Am I in bizarro 2+2 world or something. Since when is calling 107 suited UTG a good play??

Edit: Oops I really need to read a thread before I say anything. I definitely raise the flop here, bb could be betting anything, and I can either try to steal this on the turn, or get a free card depending on how strong I feel the BB is. I fold the river here though, I don't think you're going to get him to fold to a river raise.

You didn't read that article on parttimepoker.com?

Yeah, anything suited, play it anytime. If you call down and win you just say "But they were sooted" and everyone knows you've been doing your homework. Surprised you didn't get that memo.
