View Full Version : I can't fold and i don't know when to bet

...in other words, i have no idea how to play this game. almost tossed my FPS out the ole window today, and i LOVE my fps. anyhoo, here's the i can't fold hand...villian is normal, 40/4/1. if and where do people fold this? i'm playing like an absolute fool recently and my wtsd is up to 38.10. argg.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J/images/graemlins/heart.gif, J/images/graemlins/club.gif.
1 fold, MP calls, 1 fold, SB completes, Hero raises, MP calls, SB calls.

Flop: (6 SB) 9/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 4/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 9/images/graemlins/club.gif (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP calls, SB folds.

here's an example of me not knowing if/when to bet. no reads in this one. i feel pretty hapless in the blinds. im pretty sure this is a standard complete here, but afterthat i have no idea how to proceed. do you checkraise the flop if the button bets? if the flop gets checked and i get checkraised on the turn, is it an easy fold?

This is standard. Don't fold overpairs in a HU pot, there are plenty of ways you can be ahead - this could be an A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, pocket Ts, small PP that got crazy, A7 that just hit, etc.

I lead this flop many times - if villains are at all aggro you'll usually have heard from most aces preflop, so your hand is likely best here, and you'll get lots of folds from hands with 6 outs.

good, the flop got checked through, so your hand should likely still be best, many club draws bet the flop. You'll charge single-card flush draws, and can fold to a raise.

This is a very bad 3-bet, especially given villains 7% pfr. Position is important, but it doesn't turn KQ into KK. I'd think twice about 3betting this guy with AQ (though I probably would, and that's about as low as i'd go).

okay, you've got odds to draw, cool. Your outs are most likely tainted but you can peel one off getting 10:1

okay, now you hit your hand. This is still a way ahead/way behind situation though, so it'll be best to let him keep betting at it, and you have position so you can bet if checked to.
