The prank: Tie fishing line between someones car and trash can

The problem is the line we used (50 lb test) was not strong enough to pull down the trash can. Ive found 80lb test in the thin spider wire, but I dont want to spend 25 bucks if its gonna break to.

Any of you math wizzes know how strong of line I need?

WTF? Is this a dumpster? 10 lb. test should pull it down.

Get one of those spring things that measure force and pull on the can until it tips over.

I was really shocked that 50 didnt do it, but we tried it in 3 different places and none of them worked. (we were only able to watch two, but I assume the other didnt work since no one got angry)

Also, its not the knots, The line is breaking in the center.

(50 + 80 / $25) - (length of wire * number of expected passengers) / color of car

The problem is if there's any slack, the line is gonna snap as soon as it becomes taut and instanly tries to accelerate the traschcan to whatever speed the car is going. So, the OP is going to need some strong stuff.

if you insert a spring into the system (car-spring-line-can) would this help absorb the initial startup? maybe something rigid enough to not break down completely when the car moves away like a bed spring.

Yea, I realized this after I posted the other.

This is a great idea...so when it doesn't work and the line snaps anyway the spring can fly through their car window. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL...I'm not opening new accounts at every hosting site. Anyone else have an idea? Does this eventually resolve itself or soemthing?

No need to open an account, you can just upload an image and link to the direct link in your profile.

You don't need an account to use imageshack. This is why imageshack is better.

double or tripple up the wire. You can use the same 50 pound test but just run 3 lengths of it.

Monofilament line might work better to as there is some stretch to it. But its alot larger in diameter so it would be more noticible.
