only raise preflop in late position?

Hey all, I've been playing .50/1.00 limit for a few days and was wondering if I should only raise good hands in late position preflop?

I think the generic answer is:

If it's a hand that plays well multihanded, raise from late position to get more money in the pot. If it's a hand that plays best heads-up, raise from early position to discourage others from playing along.
