Sometimes, after hitting a shot, I'll see this:

It appears to me that the path of the club was OK, but the face obviously was shut (I'm right-handed). Needless to say, these shots end up left.

Poor grip? Too much hand action (heh)? Thoughts?

Where was the ball relative to the divot?

Typically, when this happens, the contact has been good, so the divot starts after the ball.

from the shape of your divot, i can tell that you are closing the club face too soon....one way to remedy this is by switching your grip. if you are properly gripping the club, you will see all four knuckles on your left hand...another indicator that you are correctly gripping is that the spacing between your thumbs and hand should form an arrow that points to your right shoulder.
