Villain is loose, and not very good. Pot is pretty big on the river, so I didn't want to check/fold. I'm thinking check/fold might be better since my pair beats very few pairs.

I'm not good enough postflop to raise 55 UTG yet, so for me this is either a limp or fold depending on table conditions.

However, postflop, I play it the same, except I think I check/call that river. Your hand has some showdown value, and the bet/fold line makes me throw up.

Plus, you might induce a bluff from A high.

i dont like it on the river, when i ma in this kind of situation I usually just check the river and hope that the guy bluffs,if he has a better hand so be it,
but what can you get by betting? you say he is loose so he wont fold a better hand,ok he will probably call with a lower hand but will that happen enough to be profitable?
also you never know he may try a raise bluff,
id rather check/call

Yeah, this hand seems easier now. I like the check/call now too. For some reason, I think I misread the board when I played this hand, and saw 4 to a straight on that river (with A high making a 1 card straight), so bet/fold seemed correct. But in that case, check/fold is probably better anyways.
