[censored]

I started watching some anime this weekend for some reason and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? And not the porn stuff either.

I watched Ninja Scroll which I thought was good and I am a third of the way into Akira which im not really into so far.

Any good ones out there I should see?

According to all the anime nerds (could you call them nerds?) I know, Cowboy Bebop is the best.

The only anime I've liked (and actually was nuts about it in a Star Wars/Harry Potter way) was Star Blazers.

Trigun is one of the few I really like.

the three that really matter are

Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Fooly Cooly aka Furi Kuri aka FLCL

Trigun and Cowboy Bebop are both 26 episodes, so I recomend FLCL first, as it's the most obscure, and is only 6 20 minutes episodes.

In terms of action, all three are about the same, bebop is simply bounty hunting with the main story being the main characters' pasts that you have to figure out for yourself.

trigun is about the main character himself being wanted, and getting into trouble

FLCL is just out there.

my fav is FLCL

Cowboy Bebop the t.v. series was great, but Cowboy Bebop the movie was incredibly bad in comparison. I'd give the series an easy A+ and the movie a C.

Anything by Miyazaki: Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, whatever

Grave of the Fireflies

I started up Metropolis, but haven't finished it. It seems okay so far, but there are a few of the clumsy things that don't make sense in there, and some of it seems pointless. I haven't made a final decision yet, but I just haven't felt all that much like seeing the rest of it after falling asleep twice while watching it.

I've been very disappointed by a lot of anime. Lots of it seems like bad drama, but without the magic actors can bring to make even boring movies occasionally pretty watchable.

Tokyo Godfathers was such a let-down I couldn't finish it. Millenium Actress was supposed to be great, but it was just okay, at best. Akira was very borderline, and I haven't been compelled to watch it again, as I am with almost any movie I like. Perfect Blue was one of the bigger movie disappointments I've had in years.

I've gotten kind of discouraged from exploring more anime, since it seems I'm either finding great stuff or really disappointing junk, and the great stuff was found quite a ways back by now.

I'm a big fan of both CowBoy Bebop and Outlaw Star. They are 26 episode series and both kinda run along the same lines of Bounty Hunting/treasure hunting etc

I agree with 100% of what was said here. Check out everything by Miyazaki, they're all great.

Other than the ones already mentioned, I like both of the Vampire Hunter D movies, the Record of Lodoss War series, Hellsing, and all of the different Gundam series'.

Maybe I'll check those out then.

I looked up Full Metal Alchemist, the recommendation by Jack of Arcades up there, and the customer reviews on Netflix are pretty ecstatic. So I put that in my queue.

I'll check out your recommendations for my Netflix queue tomorrow.

I forgot to mention Neon Genesis Evangelion, Blood: the Last Vampire, X, and Street Fighter Alpha. Fist of the Northstar and Astroboy were good back in the day. I can't think of any others that are decent, mostly because I haven't seen too many, but also because the truth is most anime isn't very good, just like most of everything isn't very good. Once you get by Gundam, Miyazaki, and Cowboy Bebop, most of it is pretty shoddy.

I liked Cowboy Bebop, but the series called Noir(Nowâru) has been the favorite thing I've seen so far. Every episode builds upon the last rather than having a series with a few big major episodes and the remaining episodes being fine but not haveing all that much overall importance to the series.

here's the summary from Netflix:

In this anime adventure, Mireille is a professional assassin who's contacted one day by a young woman claiming to be an amnesiac named Yumura. Drawn in by Yumura's story, Mireille discovers that Yumura possesses the skills of an assassin and may be able to unlock some of the secrets of Mireille's past. Soon, it becomes clear that both women are the focus of a deadly conspiracy that will call upon all their skills to stay alive.

Enjoy,

Allan

Eh, I found it alright. What you felt was 'building on', I felt was dragging. It wasn't so bad in dragging on that I had to turn it off though. To each his own, I guess.

At least it didn't drag on as long as .hack//Sign. Goddamn that was a piece of [censored].

Cowboy Bebop is by far the best anime to introduce the form to non-anime types, IMO.

(Series)
Cowboy Bebop (must see)
Samurai Champloo
Trigun

(Movies)
Grave of the Fireflies (must see)
Ghost in the Shell (the sequel is beautiful visually but kind of sucks as a film, IMO)
all Miyazaki

Coincidentally, I just watched 'Ghost in the Shell" today. It was OK but not as good as I was expecting from all the hype. Still, pretty good. I also liked, "Akira", if the OP doesn't like it very much, he probably won't like a lot of anime. I can also vouch for "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke", I personally prefer "Spirited Away" a lot more. "Cowboy Bebop" the series and movie are both pretty good. I thought "Vampire Hunter D" sucked. "Ninja Scroll" didn't appeal to me that much. I know there are some others, but they aren't coming to me at the moment. I'm not that big into anime these are just most of the films I've seen.
