for a masochistic personal challenge, sometimes i play microlimit at an online site that i believe is inhabited 90% or more by house players who wait for the odd visitor to pop in to be cleaned out - i have made my views known, in chat, on numbers of occasions, and i have had e-mails from support asking me not to call their players "bots" as they have had several complaints from their (normally) silent players that they don't like being called bots - yeah, sure they have

an interesting encounter with a player that i have not seen before happened yesterday

here's the chat:

Spell: hi all
Mike Haven: Spell: hi
Acid: hi again
Acid: how is it going?
Spell: Acid: again? why?

Mike Haven: Acid: he seems a bit of a plonker

quite normal poker chat, as you will know

but look at the line "Spell: and how much do they pay you for this?"

my question is to the psychologists: is that something that an ordinary player would say? especially after they had instigated an aggressive conversation? or does it sound like a "management" type of comment?

it seemed strange to me but i would appreciate hearing what you thought - thanks

i dont think he has anything to do with management if this is what your question is asking. i think that it was the first thing that came to his head/excuse to get off topic, or get out of it because he was in fact all talk. This is one of the things i hate about online poker and prefer B&M to. This is that in online poker everyone is all talk and they hide behind their computers. You see less (happens sometimes i guess) of this big talk in B&M because they are scared to get called on it and embarrassed in front of so many people. the thing i dont get is his big dick comment, whats up with that.

A further addition to this thread i would like to add is that i dont think that heads up proves who is a better poker player. whenever someone gets an insult that is usually true like the k7 example mike explained it seems so often to lead to a statment like "oh yeah, id kill you heads up. lets go play. any time any place." Just because you can beat someone heads up in a single session or even 90% of the time doesnt mean you win more than that person in full games or or even shorthanded. And in the long run make less long term because heads up matches are much tougher to find. heads up is such a small percent of what goes in to ring game poker. and therefore doesnt make you a better player.

thank you - your analysis makes very good sense

i think i may be a little paranoid about what i've seen at this particular site over the weeks, and i am now jumping to incorrect conclusions at any opportunity

if i see him again i'll just say hi as usual

much appreciated
