Villain in this hand is a TAG (20.9/12.5). I don't know much about his postflop play except it's seemed pretty relentless/aggro. (CRing flop in BB def situations, etc)

OK, I don't get your reasoning. Please explain.

opponent is a TAG and aggro post flop, yet you raise him on the river with nothing more than TP poor kicker. You think he's going to fold because you represent trips?

Looks really good.

no, he thinks QQ-99 and smaller pairs and maybe something like A8s will pay off because of the missed diamonds and the "hopeless last stab" feel of the river raise. its a value raise.

plus he can fold to a 3-bet and many better hands will be reluctant to 3-bet, so his downside is limited. the isssue is whether villain pushes enough worse hands on all 3 streets to make the raise for value. I think this class of villain ("pretty relentless/ aggro") probably does.

anyone else raise the turn and check it down on the river UI?

Good explanation. Thanks.

This is a play I've been experimenting with. In situations like these, it's harder to get a worse hand to pay you off when you raise the turn, then bet the river when checked to.
This is the way most people play monsters when someone else leads into them. If you wait to raise the river, it often looks weird and desperate. The weirdness means that it's not likely to get 3-bet by hands that don't have your hand absolutely trashed. The desperation means that your raise will be called a lot of times when you're ahead.

So i'm trying to find good places to incorporate this play. Here's another example. This guy was just a typical 5/10 6-maxer. I figure that he could have easily been betting a hand like middle or bottom pair, and will call with it, thinking I'm bluffing the scare card.
