Don't know how authoritative this is, but according to

http://www.classicbands.com/mostplayed.html

it's the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling." The Beatles have several in the top 100.

I remember when Titanic came out, every single radio station played "My Heart Will Go On" two or three times an hour.

I highly doubt this is the right answer, though.

The Rolling Stones - Satisfaction
It definately isn't Stairway although it is the greatest song of all time.

That's because modern stations and long songs don't go together that well.

A song like stairway to heaven was not intended to be overplayed. For that it was never overplayed; it's long, it's meaningful and a classic. Even non modern stations don't regularily play long songs.

There are not many people I've talked to that were alive in the early 70s and have said that Stairway wasn't played to death. That and Layla.

I wasn't around back then, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, you're probably right.

I don't see how it couldn't be 50 Cent - In Da Club.

Well... I doubt its 50 cent considering he's only been around about 2-3 years.

Radio has been along how much longer? I don't know exactly but a lot.

Don't you find that list sketchy? Stairway To Heaven is not even on it.

I'd be willing to bet $100 that #1 is Stairway To Heaven. (But of course you don't take the bet unless you Google for the right answer first so I have the right to decline all takers.)
