View Full Version : How fishy am I?

PL Omaha, Paradise Poker, $0.50/$1.00 blinds.

I was in the BB and received AJT8 rainbow.

Three callers: UTG, button, SB. I check.

Flop: QdKdAs

I bet $3 into a $4 pot. UTG calls, button raises to $16. SB folds.

I have $95 left...both other players have more than me. Do I fold here? Button has a made straight and perhaps a diamond draw. Backdoor low is possible, too.

I call, UTG calls.

Turn: 6c

Check to button, bets $52. Do I fold here if I called the flop? Low may get there. I called, UTG folded.

River: 4s Low makes it

Button bets $29.25. Call since I made it this far, I guess?

Button had JT and a low. I "won" $52!

Consider that you were chasing half the pot with three effective outs.

Rampage: why do you say "three effective outs"?

RiverJohn: obviously the pot-bet on the flop is fine. When you get raised, though, it's thinking time.

Your position could not be worse: caught between the raiser and the only other player, and first to act on every round.

Your hand is going nowhere, and the button almost surely has JT too. He could have two pair, trips, the flush draw or the backdoor low draw to go with it, and you have none of these. You don't want to see the flush come in, the board pair, or two low cards come. That's quite a tall order.

You don't know if UTG is going to reraise on the flop, or what. On the turn, when the button bets, you don't know if UTG will call along so that getting a quarter wouldn't be quite so awful.

I think you need to fold on the flop. Even in high-only Omaha it would be worth considering a fold on the flop in this situation, although on Paradise it would probably be wrong; hi-lo makes it easier to do. The pot is small. Let it go.

By the way, it would be helpful to me if you could make it clear earlier in your posts that you're talking about hi-lo: your hand of AJT8 looks like an Omaha high hand to me, as did AQQ3 in your previous post. Ta!

Guy.

Like I said, I'm just starting to learn this game. This current AJT8 was played from an unraised BB.

The previous hand was likely from late position. Is AQQ3 not an OK holding to see the flop for an unraised pot?

I figured after this hand that I probably need to fold on the flop. Just wanted to make sure.

ThanX!

I should have folded the very first raise. I don't think that's a good startershand for Hi/Low.
A3QQ is pretty good. Giving you outs for Hi and Low
