Speakers+condo+condo neighbors=ugh...

i got a really sweet 2 channel audio system installed downstairs in my condo yesterday. i turn it on around 4pm to mess around with it, the speakers are 3 feet away from my shared wall, im listening to the commodores at about 30% volume(not loud enough to enjoy) and my neighbor comes over and complains within 5 minutes. do i have to take his complaints into account or can i ignore him? as far as im aware you are only restricted to being reasonably quiet after 10pm. so what do you think?
