I just found out today that John Rawls, the finest philosopher of the 20th Century, who resurrected and extended the contract theories of Locke, Rousseau, and Kant, died last week at the age of 82. There were times that I had considered him the most intelligent man alive. Without much fanfare, the world has lost a great thinker.
