Should I have just folded PF and saved myself the trouble?

Which player raised? It's not clear from your post. Either way, I think it was a mistake to lead out (especially that much). You need some more information and you want that as cheap as possible. Betting over 25% of the largest opponents stack costs you TOO much. Perhaps a 1/3 the pot bet would be better. I would also consider checking and then making my decision based on what happens. For example, if the pre-flop raiser bets say 1/3 or 1/2 the pot, then I might throw in a check-raise to see if he has AK. Then if he comes back over the top then I can lay it down.

I don't think limping would be bad here, but you should defintely muck to a raise.
