Just watch this thread. Most people announce when their match is. Barring that, just sign on to Stars and look for a game where the stacks add up to $4. It's probably a 2+2 match, since most people sit down with less money.

MrWookie47
05-17-2005, 03:05 PM
Hey, that's a pretty interesting coincidence, actually. The stack sizes were determined due to demand for 50 BB stack sizes, not because of an obscure 2+2 reference, but that's kind of cool how it worked out.

TomBrooks

There is a match going on now on table Mekbuda. PokerStar names: MAST... vs. icfish.. Don't know there 2+2 names though.

tiltaholic
05-17-2005, 03:13 PM
just as an aside, in the lobby it usually views at $2 and $1, since the lobby window rounds the stack sizes off.

or just type chump? in the chat and the players will let you know if they are 2+2...

I will leave that upto the you guys on a match to match basis, if you both agree to say a 2hr lime limit, or a smaller stack I have no problems with it .. the base rule set will remain the same

it was meant as a fun tourney, I don't want it to become painful to play the matches

Good match. Good tourney. 50BBs can take a long time though. After about 90minutes BoomBoom and I agreed to 25BB as he said and it went a tad over 2 hrs overall. Increasing blinds would be really cool if there is a site that offers that. Something to look into for the future maybe.

Complete and udder fcking joke, the run of cards tonight.

I was demolished by the deck, and gt123 whipped me up good.

I'm still a little peeved, though, as he managed to outflop and river me at a disturbing ratio.

It was a good game, but the other side of me is just so disappointed and frustrated that luck was such a big factor in this match.

That said, gg gt123 and good luck. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Regarding match length:

I don't think altering the setup now is a good call - but it's your gig and I am enjoying it.

For future tournaments of this nature, which would work better?

1) Smaller starting stacks
2) Escalting blinds
3) Set time limit - at the end of that limit the person with the most chips win?

Sarge/images/graemlins/diamond.gif

MrWookie47
05-18-2005, 05:12 PM
I think I like the stack size at 50 BB. It allowed me to prolong my whoopin from Donkey long enough to have hopefully learned something. I think shortening it more than that by default is letting variance play too much of a part and shortchanging the learning experience that was a huge part of why this tournament was started. However, if the match is getting arduous, I think that the two players can agree to something - shorter stack concede, getting you down to $1 is getting you down to $0, something like that.

Welp, I finally tilted away the last of my 2 bucks at that fucking table.

Story of the match:

I'm dealt a strong ace, bt has a stronger ace, I am forced to call down because the flop only has one high card and is paired, double paired, or has three of a kind on board. He always has the high card.

I get a pair, I am raised somewhere by a hand without a pair, I call, and he turns or rivers a pair.

I have an ace on an extremely low card board and he somehow capped preflop with 24 and paired his 2 and has called down.

I call in the bb with 76 or so, flop top pair and raise/call down/whatever and he has a pocket pair higher than my pair.

I probably cussed about 58 times during the match.*

Triple comes back from all-in to get even, then loses. But does drink four beers in the course of the match. Not bad.

River: (9 BB) A/images/graemlins/heart.gif (2 players)
villain bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 11 BB

He had AQ.

I got luckboxed in back to back 10BB pots with 4 outers on the river. had KK flop is 345, turn 4, river 6, irish has 10-7, then I have Js6s, flop is 6-spade-spade, cap flop, i raise turn, river is A to match his red AQ. Barf. I had about ten million hands where I would flop mid pair and open ender, get called by nothing, miss my draws and he turns/rivers a higher pair to win. Also, he disconnected with 10c-xc and I had Jc-7c and the board made a club flush, I won .02 lol. Oh well, gg and gl.

And if you think I raise too much preflop, you ain't seen nothin' yet with some of these guys.

I believe my PF call was loose if viewed in isolation. But I didn't want wookie to get away with PFRing my BB more often that about 35% of the time, so here I called.

As for the rest of the hand, I deliberitely (sp) played soft. I wanted to ensure it was shown down. I haven't gotten a SF in 50k hands, and wanted to gloat. You can safely assume I wouldn't necesarrily play this way normally.

Eh, I wasn't saying that. But some of these guys are on autocap preflop lol. My first match, I don't think he literally once didn't raise the button. I probably raised the button ~60%. It was definitely a different flow this time, and it was hard for me to adjust.

The disconnect was clearly unintentional, I hope everyone knows that's not what I was saying. Hell, it was still preflop, if it was intentional, I'm more concerned about your pattern mapper. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

No, it was just symbolic of my overall frustration as I missed every good draw, and there was one finally to come through and I win a SB.

The preflop call isn't that loose at all. I'm defending with 74s 100% of the time, and 3-betting approximately 30% of the time.

Also, I know you wanted to see a showdown, but I really like a c/r on this flop because regardless of what your opponent is holding, he should almost never be folding to a flop c/r here.

I knew the leather ass would come in handy. Shame the only way I can win is by outlasting superior opponents... but I'll take 'em any way I can get 'em. 5 fewer BB and I would have been out in <50 hands. Luckbox city. Good match, sir.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good match. I was very impressed by your ability to keep your head and and pay attention for so long. You definitely outlasted me, but I'd say we were about even when I had my head on, which makes you the superior player.

Haven't heard from AC Slater in a while, he PMed me earier in the week to set up the match, but I haven't heard from him since. Let's get our LAG on.

Edit: AC and I just set up the match for 7 PM tonight. I'll be there doing my best Zack Morris impersonation.

This has probably been hashed and re-hashed in this post or the other, but what percentage of hands are you guys playing in these matches? What about your PFR percentage?

For my first two matches I'm at about 60%/30%, but don't even know if that's in the right ballpark.

That one was definitely ridiculous, I have no reservations about that.

Entity keeps inducing river bets from me by checking the turn with a made hand, or at least he did it a few times and I definitely noticed.

We're on hold until later today or later in the weekend.
After 184 hands Entity has $0.46 and I have $3.54. He's playing really well. I think I'm holding my own though, while definitely snagging a few undeserved big pots.

Well, it's over.

I can't honestly say whether you outplayed me or not. I think you caught a pair on the turn just about every time I had the best hand on the flop, but your ability to call down with Ace high was second to none. Good game.

That last hand sucked, though, BTW (not in how you played it -- you played it fine. It just flat out sucked.). /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nottom defeats ak13 in 280 hands.

Was a pretty back and forth match, that had us tied after 230ish hands before I went on a nice rush and finished him off.

One of the key hands involved my AQ vs his AT and an xxAAx board. Lots of bets went in on that one and it was probably the hand that broke his back.

187 hands, I was a total luckbox tonight. I did try to play my best, and with what little HU game I have I thought I managed to play ok. Had the deck not hit me so hard it probably would have been a very different story. I will say that you seemed to end up calling down my good hands and folding to most of my bluffs. I got lucky on the turn or river ALOT though too.
It was good fun, I wish I could run that well all the time /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

No. You actually played very well against me (preflop wise) . I could not put you on a hand preflop since you basically raised or limped randomly. There was one hand where you limped with an ace and showed it down and won, so then I tried to get a read on you by raising every BB after you limped. Not once did you reraise (at 1st at least) yet you still showed down hands worthy of a call-reraise. So from that point on, I kinda thought that you weren't raising good hands preflop, and I started to limp on the button with monsters and then raise everything else. Unfortunatly everytime I limped with AJ or KK you would check preflop and then check/fold the flop. I didn't have enough time to start mixing my limping strategy to setup lots of steals since it kept going limp-check with Q3 and have the flop come AQx (and I think I'm golden) and see you have A7 at showdown. Well played.

Cool. I tried to mix up my pf play just enough to keep you off balance, but not so much as to be obvious. I also went and read the dialog regarding your match with SCfuji to get an idea of what your play was like once I found out we were playing.
Postflop didn't work out as well (as far as my play, imo). I did try my best, thankfully hitting the turn alot offset my lack of HU skills. I missed quite a few bets when I had a hand, but I stole a few pots bluff 3 betting the turn. You did a real good job of extracting max value from me when you had a big hand though.

I'm going to catch hell for this, but I have virtually no free time next week so I won't be able to play in any more CHUMP matches. My apologies to SomethingClever and my Loser's Bracket opponent but I'm deluged with responsibilities from college and work and have no significant spans of free time next week. :\

I'll be honest and say that I'll probably find time to work off a Party/Interpoker bonuses but that can be done anytime in the next few days - if I'm only free one evening next week, that's not fair to force other people to schedule around me.

In the future, I will be more mindful of my schedule before signing up for these events - fun as it is, poker takes a back seat to the other crap in my life.

I really hope that the best player wins this thing, but this is probably playing a bigger factor then I first imagined (unless you really go back to fit or fold). If you are mixing it up a lot, 50 BB can go away in a heartbeat when the boards aren't hitting.

I really liked the structure until the finals. The 200/400 blinds with 160K stacks was some good ish to wacth. The big 4000/8000 stacks with 640k behind was pretty lame though since it turned into a crap shoot quickly. If they started with 1k/2k blinds and played a 1 match freezeout it would have been better imo.
