View Full Version : Who wants to send Granny to WSOP?

Mike Haven
05-17-2005, 01:19 PM
Any takers for this basic idea?

About 90 of us buy 90 units of $100 each from Granny, via a Stars transfer, so he can achieve his burning ambition to play in the big one.

If Granny places in the money, he gives us all as much of our $100 back as he can out of the winnings.

If there is winnings left over, he keeps 25% and divvies up the rest equally per $100 unit between the owners of the $100 units.

Obviously, everything is done in good faith, no formal contracts, and subject to Granny's agreement. The idea can be expanded a bit to force him to wear Granny clothes, Zoo hat, etc. (Granny knows not of this suggestion, as I write.)

Notes:

I am not Granny.

I have never had sex (as per Clinton's definitions) with Granny.

I think I am sane; therefore I may not be.

i would not accept unless i were to be playing equal shares for all investors to the penny. not 25% or anything like that.

BUT, if we were going to do that, can't we find a better player?
/images/graemlins/wink.gif

thanks mike, but honestly i could not accept this unless it were me playing for the same share as any other investor. i.e. if i put $100 in and you put $100 in, we would get same return to penny.

however, i still say that the zoo NEEDS to send someone whether it is by raffle or a tourney. i know we have lots of horses to follow, but none sent directly by this forum.

nice gesture tho. i'm humbled

Mike Haven
05-17-2005, 07:20 PM
thanks for the support, guys - nothing that follows is yet set in concrete, but it's looking like a good start

HavanaBanana hit the nail on the head when he said this is all about trust

for all of us Zoo dwellers who can't get to the WSOP this year, having a very talented horse to ride who we all know, like, and trust is as close to being there as we could hope to get, in my opinion - it would be great to follow Granny's progress through the days, and when the tv guys see the Granny shirt and hear the story behind his entry you can bet your bottom dollar that we'll get a fair bit of airtime even in the early stages

i've been chatting with Granny by pm since the original post and the good news is that he's now agreed that as long as every single one of us putting money up for the seat gets an exact proportional percentage back if Granny places then he will try his absolute best to win this thing for us!

other good news is that one of the site operators thinks he may have an extra room booked that he might be able to give to Granny, as long as Granny wears his knickers, or some such deal (maybe it was the other way round?)

here's the latest idea (in round terms) on the seat:

Granny will pay $5000 and will keep 50% of any winnings

the other $5000 will be split into 45 $100 shares and 10 $50 shares

if Granny places, each $100 share will receive 1%, and each $50 share will receive 0.5%, of any winnings

(it will probably be easiest if we buy the shares for $100+(1% of fee), in fact)

so far we have a provisional list of shareholders of:

ddollevoet
Eder
ElSapo
HavanaBanana
Inthacup
Jim Kuhn
La Brujita ($50)
Lawrence Ng ($200)
Losing all
Mike Haven
morgant
Nick-Zack
Stu Pidasso
Tuco ($200)
Uglyowl
VinnyTheFish

only a few more shares left, so please add your name to this thread very soon if you want to be in if it goes the whole way (mention if you might want more than one share and the total value, please)

last but not least, Granny also wants to put a small bonus on his head before the tourney starts, in that the first person to tap him on the shoulder and say "you're Granny Mae and i claim my bonus" will win himself 50 bucks or so (by the way, Granny has of course agreed that all shareholders know his full real name before the off so that we can follow the leader board)

I just want to say for the record, this is a great idea and I'd probably be in for a $50 share, I just blew a load of my roll on a trip to Vegas and booked a trip to DisneyWorld.

But, is Granny aware that his/her identify will now be exposoed to the forum? And, if so is that a problem?

Is the raffle deal dead btw?

thank you, Stew

is Granny aware that his/her identify will now be exposoed to the forum? And, if so is that a problem?

no - i think when Granny was seriously ill his name was revealed in posts by relatives

Is the raffle deal dead btw?

by no means - but it can be organised very quickly by whoever decides to pick up the ball - i thought this was a similar idea, but with the added value of getting a horse that actually stands a chance, plus, imo, all risk of investors not being paid is removed

Go Granny! Very nice of Mike to start this thread. However, I am a daft, jealous prick and liked the idea of a raffle (or tourny) to send someone (of course, so I could get a chance at being sponsored for the $10K).

Anyway, funny thing:

When I got my cashiers check at the bank to send to Harrah's (it had to be made out to Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino) for the WSOP, the tellers all started talking about it and though I was a celebrity (LMAO).

Anyway, good luck Granny.
