Which mode do you prefer? IMO threaded is infinitely superior.

i was a threaded guy until about a month ago. now, i'm not going to make the grandiose proclamations in favor of flat mode that will soon be made by others, but i like flat better just because it's easier. threaded definitely has some merit.

Ther both good. Flat's good for viewing the entire thread at once (especially if it's long), and threaded's good if you are just returning to a previously viewed thread for individual replys. Threaded is also a little more organized, as flat mode lists replys chronologically as opposed to being directly underneath its corresponding post.

Flat is much, much better as long as people hit reply to the post they are actually replying to, instead of just replying to the last post on the list.

It'd probably take 5 times as long to read a thread over 100 posts in threaded mode. The small advantages of threaded mode don't come close to overcoming this.

By the way, I'm an advocate of almost always quoting the post you reply to, to help the flat mode viewers (which appears to be almost everyone).

I dont get why threaded is the default, its obviously inferior.

Anyone who reads in threaded mode either just doesnt know any better, or is a giant moron.

I was wondering the same thing-- I always thought everyone used flat, but 1/2 of the hits I see on my blog from 2+2 are from threaded mode views.

I think Mason does, and that's why. He always replies in a way that seems to suggest he reads threaded.

Flat the first time a read a thread, then I go threaded to check responses.
