With AK I like to reraise this preflop (to 150 total probably) and bet 2/3 pot on flop without a Q or a J on it.

The problem with your line is that you have precisely zero idea whether Button has a set, 56, or 78 on the river, and thus I hate the checkraise - he doesn't call you with less than a set, two pair, or a straight. I know that this is exactly how I would play 56 here.

the rest of the hand...

i really don't like the way i played this one. i figured that on a draw-heavy board, it would be unlikely that villain would check behind on the flop with a set or two pair, or A8.

when he called the turn, i thought the most likely hand was a flush draw.

so on the river, i was quite confident i was winning the hand. i checked to give him a chance to bluff at it, and then i thought i could extract a little more value if he has had the nut flush draw and now picked up top pair. in retrospect, there were too few hands that were going to pay off that river c/r without being ahead. i think a better river line would have been check-call.

as it was, villain calls my c/r (but doesn't take my last T235) with 35 for a rivered straight.

I know the risk-reward sucks, but do you hate a push preflop? I dont like the idea of playing AK out of position into a raise. Depending on what I thought of the table, I may take a race

hmm... seems pretty fishy to me. there's T150 in the pot and i have T1080 behind. seems like too much to me. if i had T700 behind then i think a push would look ok.

as it is, i think i have a decent chance of flopping TPTK and stacking somebody with a worse kicker. having chips left on the flop OOP of course kinda sucks, but the fact that i'm sooooted makes me more inclined to see a flop.

The fact that it looks fishy is kinda why I like it. It looks so much like an attempt to win a decent pot by a blind, you are likely to get called by AT-AJ. Not something I would do often, but I might give it a shot, especially if I have an aggressive image.

I agree but I still like to reraise (Edit: to like 175) preflop, it defines your opponent's hands better when they call.

I think I'm checking and calling on the river. I don't like the check raise very much. Also, I'd probably check the turn. You haven't shown any interest in winning this pot up until now, why lead at the turn?

The way you played it preflop(which is what I would have done) I would have checked every street, folding on the flop or turn, and calling on the river.
