Bloodsport was awesome. Street Fighter is one of the worst movies ever made.

This is Bloodsport all the way. Kickboxer gets honorable mention because of the bar scene where JCVD gets drunk and does a horrible horrible dance before beating up some guys. One of the funniest moments in unintentional comedy history.

Bloodsport wins because of Bolo and the guy who does the monkey style fighting, along with all kinds of other awesomeness.

Double Impact and Lionheart were both kickass when I was a kid as well. Streetfighter was a turd.

What was the one where he travels to the orient to compete in an invitation only tournament? Fighters with different disciplines from all over the world like Thai kickboxers and Chinese Kung Fu experts. Was that Street Fighter?

Bloodsport 1. Kickboxer 2. That's all that matters.

Wow. Bloodsport and it's not even close. At all. Although, I do have to admit that Hard Target had it's moments. He choked a rattlesnake and punched it in the face. Then he pulled off the rattler with his teeth. It doesn't get any better than that.

was buzzing a person's doorbell at two in the morning because he wanted to ask information?

The Belgian charismatic actor was buzzing and buzzing but the personn upstairs was drunk and would not respond. Finally he comes to the intracom and yells "WHO THE HELL IS BUZZING MY DOORBELL AT TWO IN THE MORNING???"

Up comes the polite reply by the international movie star, "Jean Claude Van Damme".

Bloodsport all the way, but in a distant second I'd put The Quest, largely because (a) it had almost the exact same plot as Bloodsport, and (b) some of the fights at the end were well filmed and edited. The final fight was horrendous, though.

Double Impact. Twice the Van Damme = twice the shittiness. Plus, you get token foreign blonde with HUGE knockers, and such classic lines as "Do I look like I would wear black silk underwear?"

Hard Target had some good cinematography. It was one of the first films Woo directed over here. He used a lot of the same techniques as he did in Hard Boiled.

But then again, that was really a John Woo movie that happened to have Van Damme in it.

I Haven;t seen Bloodsport, but his perfectly describes the plot of the Quest too. Except the fighters are all kinds of absurdness: a Chinese snake-stle guy, who is pretty cool, an enormous Turkish wrestler whom Van Damme beats in the final despite being outwieghed by about 10-1, and best of all, a bull-fighter, representing Spain.

The Quest was a terrible movie, but great to watch. Some of the fight scenes were awesome as hell. The tiny asian who kept switching styles each match was great.

Lionheart wasn't bad, by the way.

Clearly Bloodsport is the correct choice. However, Time Cop was pretty enjoyable. The scene when he standing in a kitchen, and a guy shoots a taser at him and he jumps up and does the splits on two counter tops is pretty bad-ass.

Wow I can't believe no one gives Kickboxer any love. That movie is freaking amazing- Jean Claude dances while drunk, kicks down trees, avenges his paralyzed brother, gets tormented by a little asian martial arts master, AND its a "true" story. I don't know if the world will be lucky enough to ever see another star quite like JCVD.

Interesting fact: Tong Po from Kickboxer was Paredes from Bloodsport. Parades was the guy who got his shin kicked out by Chong Li.

I forgot about the tree kicking scene, that was awesome too. The brother was just annoying though, and nowhere near as cool a sidekick as the big hairy guy from Bloodsport.

As for the true story, I think you might be confusing Bloodsport and Kickboxer. I've never heard of Kickboxer being a true story, but Bloodsport was based on the real life Frank Dux, who is supposed to be the only American ever to win the Kumite, and supposedly set a bunch of records in the tournament. I say supposedly because it's widely believed that Dux is a mental case who just made up a bunch of stories about himself and sold them off. It's interesting stuff actually.

As for the similarities between the Quest and Bloodsport, it's not just a coincidence or lazy writing. The Quest, which was written by Dux, was originally supposed to be a higher profile, higher budget retelling of the Bloodsport story, and was originally titled "Kumite." That script was reworked into a new (but amazingly similar) story and renamed "the Quest," and Dux got almost zero credit for it. He took Van Damme to court and lost.

The best part of Bloodsport is when Frank Dux breaks the record for fastest victory in the Kumite and they instantly display the new record with the time down to like a tenth of a second on the hand painted scoreboard.

first, bloodsport is obviously the best...
but a distant second is "no retreat, no surrender" van damme as the bad guy who torments a dojo, can life get better?
