Harry Potter 2 very good , but they're gonna have probs w/the rating if books 3 & 4 are as progressively more intense, as has been stated. IMO HP2 more 'intense' in spots than LOTR1. Branagh should be a shoe-in for Sup Actor win.

Secretary very good, if yer open-minded and don't mind Spader as his SL&V character on Viagra. Maggie Gyllenhall should get an Oscar nom, though the femi-nazi's'll scream bloody murder. Think Hilary Swank in BDC, only in control of the situation.

They're also screamin' a bit over Roger Dodger. Dunno why, harmless fun; not at all like In The Company Of Men, as I've seen alleged. Of all unlikely "stunt" casts, Jennifer Beals & Elizabeth Berkley are terrific, as is the kid. The underlit, digital handheld gets a lil' old, but it works.

***SPOILER ALERT*** No review I've seen has mentioned how Rog sabotages the kid's chances w/JB[& mebbe EB, too!] in a fit of pique. Anyone else here catch that? ***END SPOILER ALERT***

And finally, I think Natural Born Killers, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, Driven & Bringing Out The Dead are gonna have to make room on the all-time worst list for Kangaroo Jack, based on the preview. Oh, yeah, Estella Warren's in it, guess I'll have to sneak in. Wonder what kinda bikini she wears, and what kinda swim scene she has in it! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Got dragged to HP2. I thought it was flat boring. I have not read the books, so I can't fill in all the things in the book missed in the movie. I thought the first one was OK, much better than this one. Snooze. When they put up the intermission thing I groaned. No, not a long boring movie.

I want to see secretary, but it won't come to the burg I'm in. If I don't catch it in a bigger city i'll have to hope it comes out on DVD. I read a good review on it on Salon.

I thought Natural Born Killers was kind of funny. Not on my worst list. But not as good as Eyes Wide Shut. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Go see Jackass. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

There was no intermission when I saw the film. It's only 2.5 hours long. There shouldn't be a break.

Harry Potter II was only marginally more atrocious than the first. If you're an 8-year old, I can understand thinking it's cool. Otherwise, I can think of a lot better things to do with your $8 (like see the flop a couple times in a tight 4-8 game - better odds of enjoying that than HP2).

"Secretary" was EXTREMELY funny. It is so dark, but I thoroughly enjoyed its originality and laughed out loud many times...Spader is perfect in the role. Definitely not mainstream material, but luckily there is an arthouse theatre down the street from my job =). Rodger Dodger was also very good, but basically a conversation piece (though very sharp and witty writing throughout)...I def enjoyed it, and it told me what I do NOT want to be like at 40. OTOH, In The Company of Men was one of THE MOST SADISTIC things I have ever seen on screen. I couldn't stop thinking about what they did to that poor woman for days, it was that horrific. That being said, I think it was a great movie and extremely original...for once, MEN get to show their anguish on screen, but wow was this one nasty. Pretty much the height of human nastiness. As for your worst list, I LOVED Natural Born Killers for the media satire it presented...another true original. I also liked Magnolia...till the frogs fell.

I actually thought "Your Friends & Neighbors" was much more brutal than ITCOM, as well as a better movie. Aaron Eckhart & the 'deaf' girl were fine, but I just never saw any chemistry btwn the girl & the other guy. I didn't buy it. If the other guy had been better-looking[but still naive; Ben Stiller, mebbe?], and both had actually shagged her, that would've been far more devastating. The twists at the end were cool, though. YFAN is just sheer brutality from start to finish. Jason Patric, who knew? Of course, Todd Solondz is prolly the king of emotional suffering on film.

If Magnolia had been nothing but the Cruise-Robards-Hoffman storyline, Lord knows how many Oscars it might've won. Hoffman, whatta genius.

" Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia"

2 of the finer films to be released in the last 5 years...

one of the finest actors in hollywood today, in my opinion. this guy gets smaller roles, but plays them SO memorably. i mean, lets think for a second:
Magnolia
Boogie Nights
Almost Famous (Lester Bangs rules!)
The Big Lebowski
The Talented Mr. Ripley (i never saw it, but i should mention it...)
PSH is totally amazing...
