This is from a recent 2/5 limit session at the Brantford Charity Casino.

Players of note:
EP: aggressive when he's got it. Pretty passive when not. Loose but not hilariously loose, he probably only sees 40% flops (as compared to the rest of the table, which is hilariously loose).

MP: old guy who's only been here an orbit. he's played probably half the hands he's been dealt. not really made any moves, it seems that he folds when he knows he's beat.

Suits in this hand are unimportant.

I get JJ on the button. EP raises, 2 cold calls, MP cold calls, I 3-bet, blinds get out (this surprised me, they were terrible), EP caps, others fold, MP calls, I call.

Flop comes: J98.

EP bets, MP raises, I cold call, EP calls.

Turn: 5.

EP checks, MP bets, I raise, EP calls two cold (he has AA or KK, I'm sure of it, but MP is a bit of a mystery).

River: 3.

Check, check, I bet, call, call.

Is my line here more or less standard or did I blow it? I'm mainly asking about my flop-turn line.

Looks utterly standard to me. 3-betting the flop isn't going to get rid of MP after he raised, so you might as well get some more money out of him on a safe turn, assuming he's not holding QT/T7 (or 67 on the turn).

So I like raising the turn there. If you get 3-bet by MP you're likely drawing to 10 outs, if not you get your value with the better hand. When he just calls your turn raise, the river bet is mandatory.

3-bet the flop for value.

There's no need to just call and raise the turn to 'protect your hand'. You have a monster hand, not a vulnerble one pair hand. You should do what will get as much bets in the middle as possible.

RAISE THE FLOP YOU CRAZY FOO! you got the flop you could only have dreamed of! they'll most likely NOT beat you, if they have the straight, thank them for paying so much to see the flop, and (theoretically) take their money.

I 3-bet the flop.

Now if I had AA or KK in that hand...and u 3 bet preflop, cold called the flop, and then popped the turn...that lets me get away from my hand super easy. As definitly dont have AK or AQ. If I have AA, then u have KK-JJ...with the jacks being way more likely.

Of course Im assuming this line (your line) comes from a solid opponent.

So I think against a solid opponent, three betting the flop is a much better line then cold calling, raising the turn. I think hes more likely to call down beat hands that way, then waiting for the turn to pounce.

So this is a standard line, but against solid opponents I like my line better.
