Tonight's show is scheduled to be the $500 min/no max NL game. Who'll be unlucky tonight on Friday the 13th? Will anyone call out people posting in the thread and tell them to come to their house? Will the "family guy" come up with some really good avatars and pictures? Will Bart get overly excited several times? Will this thread go on fire yet again?

Tune in and find out.

Kevin...

If these players are really as good as Bart says, then Bart's version of "implied odds" (the other guy paying off like a slot machine when you pay too much for a draw) goes right out the window.

Why bet so little at the end, if your gonna bluff make it tough for the guy to call. TPTK type hands will look you up on the river quite often getting better than 3:1. I would've potted the river or maybe even pushed knowing Jonas can only really call with KK and AQ, and showed the bluff for future EV purposes.

A straddle is a minimum raise done by the player under the gun, in this game it would be a raise to $40. It's usually done to create action.

This is a Noisy Table lol.

I haven't heard Jive complaining about the Table MIC!

Jive Dadson
05-13-2005, 10:35 PM
W.C. Fields said, "Never wise up a chump." What did HE know?

I don't know how many times I've heard or read a comment to the effect, "Well, if call on the turn, then you're putting him on a bluff, so if the board doesn't change, it is inconsistent not to call on the river too."

From a game theoretic perspective, that's dead wrong. In fact, the player who bluffs once is not obligated to keep bluffing, and not only is the player who calls once not obligated to keep calling, but it is an big exploitable leak if he always does.

Assume you have a "bluff-catcher" hand and call a pot size bet on the turn. A brick hits the table. Theoretically, how often should you call a pot size bet on the river? Answer: 50 percent. If you don't understand that, you need to repeat Game Theory 101. If you call more than 50%, it is a leak that the other player can exploit by bluffing on the river less than 1/2 as often as he value-bets.

Jive Dadson
05-13-2005, 10:38 PM
Another way of putting it is, "If you aren't going to call on the river, you shouldn't call on the turn." That's dead wrong too.

Jonas is annoying.

I HATE when players talk poker strategy at a table. 90% of the players don't care and don't want to hear it.

Is it me or do the majority of the tools who discuss strategy and berate players at the table seem like guys who got beat up when they were kids and now that they know how to play poker they are getting back at the world.

Jive Dadson
05-13-2005, 10:50 PM
I have requested that L@TB not use the board camera as the cards are coming out. The graphic at the bottom comes up plenty quick enough. The cut to the board camera makes it impossible to see players' reactions to the flop when THEY are watching the cards come out.

I hope that suggestion is working its way through the system.

Babbler in seat 5 (was seat 8) took out his phone to "check his messages", then right after that, he raised, and Jonas starts crying that his hand should be dead and basically whining about it for a few minutes. Floor says its fine, Jonas starts with the "good ruling, good ruling!" and basically being a baby. He had T7o and would have made a straight and of course started crying about that, too.

The stupid thing about that tell, which I see very frequently, is that you should do exactly what the other player is trying to make you do! You should check your weaker hands, like second bad kicker or third pair. Of course you still bet a monster like, in this case, top trips.

Now is there any doubt he would have called before if he didn't catch the 7 for two pair on the other hand?

Hello everybody. Thanks for joining us for our big unrestricted buy in no limit holdem game tonight. We upped the blinds to 10-20 and raised the minimum buy in to $1000. The first couple of hours were slow but we saw some real action in the last hour.

HAND 1

S4 Qc 6C
S5 Kd Kh

Both players have more than $2500. S5 in position. S4 limps S5 makes it $80 more. S4 calls.

FLOP Ks Qs 2c

S4 checks. S5 bets $125. S4 calls.

Turn Qh.

Check Check..

River
Ts

S4 checks. S5 bets $2000. S4 calls.

I said at the time that the river card was action killer for S5 but Jennifer correctly pointed out that S4 had played the hand as if she was on a flush draw. If you look at the board though, what could she have? A s js makes a royal flush. Weak Suited Ace of spades maybe. js 9s is another straight flush. Would S5 check a made flush to you on the river if she is scared of a full house? I think that S5 vastly overbetted the river here and was very lucky that he got called.

I really do not understand how u can call with Qc 6c here as S5 played the hand as if he was on a flush draw. You can really only beat AK, Aces, pocket Jacks, nines or eights here. I think that S5 missed a bet on the turn, if he had bet he would have had all of S4's chips anyway. The third spade and the completion of an A j straight is really scary for trips Queens when the button checks the turn.

HAND 2

S1 Ah 6d
S6 7c 7h
S8 JJ

S6 raises to $80. S8 smooth calls. S1 calls.

Flop:

4d Qs 4h

S6 bets $300. S8 mucks. S1 calls.

Turn:
3c
S1 checks, S6 bets $500. S1 raises to $1300-$1500 total. S6 calls.

River blank.

I don't know what to say here. S6 had about $900 invested in this pot. Barry could not even beat the queen on the board but he called Gor's all in anyway. You have got to figure that he had some sort of tell on Gor, pot odds really don't apply to this hand although it was about a $1800 pot anywhere from $800-$1000 more to call.

Please join us for tomorrow night's Nl holdem free roll play off final table tournament.

Couple of hands:

NL Holdem 10-20 blinds $1000 minimum buy in.
