View Full Version : Jobs I can do from home?

LostMyMoney

I am a regular 2+2er and a college student who has lost over $2,000 in the past year playing poker. I have the skills to beat the game but I do not have the personality for it because I get bored (and play too many hands) and I tilt severely.

I am never going to play poker again however I am turning to you all for some help. I have a decent paying job for the summer but am looking to supplement my income with a second job. I don't want to work nights because I want some flexability in my work schedule.

I am looking for a job that I can do at home, on my own schedule. I am very bright and I would prefer if the job involved some brainpower but I would take menial jobs as well.

I have searched online but have only found 100s of scams and no real leads. I have no interest in filling out surveys for cash as all of those sites are scams.

I am erring on the side of caution when it comes to legitimacy, I want a legitimate job, preferably from a company that also has land based opperations.

If you have any leads or know of a good place to look for leads please reply.

Thanks for your help,
Lost My Money

I think that people would be more sympathetic and more likely to talk to you if you posted under your real account.

Just play the .05/.10 NL game. Anyone can beat that game even after tilting.

Why does this matter? I am no longer making any strategy posts, and I am done with 2+2 soon. I played poker for a while and lost money, I now need to hold 2 jobs to replace the money I lost and to try to make some money to help pay tuition.

My other account is no more.

I am done with poker. I have a problem with Gambling Addiction and would not be able to stay at the .05/.10 game for long. Poker is no longer an option for me.

Because now you're going to end up receiving a thread full of "Who is it?" and "pussy" posts for not using your real account and it's going to distract from what you were really looking for.

Oh, I see. How often did you get stuck with unsold merchandise or stuck taking a loss?

This isn't exactly what I am looking for (I am kinda looking for a real job that I don't have to show up to in person and can have flexible hours) but it could be a good idea to make a few bucks.

Thanks for the suggestion,

I never took a loss because I bought everything really really cheap. I got stuck with unsold merchandise but the game was to buy several books for like $.25 each and sell one or two for maybe $20 each. My best was a book I bought for $1 and sold for $600. I just hauled the unsold stuff to Goodwill and claimed a tax writeoff at like $2 each. Since I paid $.25 for them I still made money.

Did you invest in anything other than books or did you stick to books because it was so hard to take a loss on them? Did you find out about the estate sales simply through flyers on trees and lamp posts or are there good resources online where people post information about house sales?

Also, what was the book you turned around from $1 >>> $600, was it published in the 19th century or something?

Edit: Also, how did most people pay you for your merchandise? Was it personal checks or did you set up a paypro account or something like that. If you used an intermediary, how expensive was it?

I stuck to books mostly because they're easy to ship, and there's demand for them. Estate sales are usually listed in the newspapers. I usually did better at book fairs though where the books were really cheap. I bought several copies of Black's Law Dictionary for like $5 apiece and sold them for like $100. I also used to buy the big thick auto reference books used by repair shops and resell them for like $200/set. It's just a matter of knowing what you can sell.

The $600 book was a rare Jack London play that they only published a few hundred copies of. I'm not saying you should sell books, but there are lots of things you can sell on ebay.

Havent found anything worthwhile (looks like more pyramid schemes and other scams) although there is some good online auctioneering advice.

I did find a link to this in a auction link:

POPES CAR FOR SALE ON EBAY (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=68191&item=4545301 886&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW&tc=photo)

It sold for 188.938,88 euros. I think the exchange rate is a little worse than $1.5 : 1 euro so thats a ~$300,000 car

Who bought it? None other than GoldenPalace.com

You can play MMORPG's like WoW and EQ2 and sell the game money for real money once you get a high level character.

quite honestly, im finding it very easy to make good money painting right now. go to ebay and type in "abstract". because i have recently developed a liking to art, and now have the money to slurge on ones that i like, ive spent alot of time searching ebay auctions for paintings. ive noticed that in general, anything that is painted onto a 40"x40"+ canvas is going to sell for at minimum $100. there is this one guy from europe who must make like 5 a day. you can tell that it takes him hardly any time to make most of his paintings, and hes averaging around a hundred bucks a pop on each of them.

im getting bored with poker and am not able to put in more than a hundred hours a month. im seriously considering taking some art classes and supplimenting my income with abstract art. i have no doubt that i can pop out at least a few grand a month. the only problem with making art is that it is so messy. its hard to clean your brushes and you need to dedicate an entire room in your house to painting. not to mention if you spill anything there goes your security deposit.

in general though, unless you find a get rich scheme plan that works, in order to make REAL money at something you have to kick ass. only way to kick ass is to work at it excessively. if youre looking to make $15/hr just so that you can make it through your education then this should be really simple.

This reminds me that if you happen to have a knack for it, you could make a lot of money buying and reselling domain names.

I used to sell Diablo 2 items and made about $1000 off ebay. I have also bought a few domain names a year ago in hopes of it becoming valuble and someone just offered me $300 for blingbling.us, but I rejected since it's worth at least $500.
