While I'm playing these tournies, I'd like to know what the finish distribution should look like. I'm suspecting I'm getting a little sloppy early. What should I expect for the spots 5-10. 6-10. 7-10 or just 5,6,7,8,9,10.

Depends what cards you and your opponents have and how you play certain hands.

Here's my general analysis.

Top 5 finish distribution should account for ~70% (to 75%)of your total finishes.

Is this the general consenus, because this gives me a starting ground to shoot for and reference to, later and for past tournaments.

I think a lot of players with good ROI don't meet the 70% in the top 5 spots. A lot of players have a pretty big spike at 6th or 7th. This should vary by buy-in.

What else is acceptable (for the $30s & 20s) I'd like to have something to reference.

I don't really know and haven't seen any indication that anyone really knows much about what ideal distributions look like at given level in the 6 months or so that I've been reading posts here.

I think if someone could collect the data you could possibly come to some interesting conclusions, but I don't really think it is possible to get enough reliable data.

for a noob like you, yeah, i suppose that could be ideal.

of course pokerprophecy would have you down with some random % itm.

to the op:

make up some distribution that fits these goals:

~40% itm

either 1st > 2nd > 3rd or 1st > 3rd > 2nd.

your "ideal" distribution is clearly some one that has you making loads of money, and different people's look slightly different.

if you look at the shape of yours and it looks funny in some way, there's a likelihood it means something, like say, too many 6ths or 7ths means your getting too aggressive too early usually, or too many 4ths means you're not aggressive enough on the bubble, and too many 2nds means you stink, or something.

Well those are my numbers over a period of more than 235,000 SNGS so I would say yes, yes it is sustainable.

eerily your distribution looks a lot like mine.

a little worse though.

I apologize, I went back and checked, and my stats reflect more like 65-68% pretty consistently between the $33s and $55s.

1 and 4
2 and 5
3
7
8
9
10 (least frequent position)

(samplesize ~400 20 and 30 SNG)
