The other problem forum, other topics, had this post today. This will not eliminate the anonymous trolls completely, but it should start it in the right direction.

As a help to the rest of us, could you add TROLL to your username. Like rayTROLLspringfield or RamaTROLLshiva.

i sure understand the reasoning, but i think this is not wise. it will serve to eliminate lazy people with something to say, and cowards that have something to say.

a forum can't have enough lazy cowards IMO.

we considered this at the forum i moderate, http://www.pokerclub.be/forum/index.php, but decided against it.
(please don't delete me mat, i have been VERY good about not spamming)


however, we have a posting base that doubled today when 2 new members signed up. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

in all seriousness, i am not sure we would ever institute such a policy even if we became huge and engorged like 2+2.

Well, doh! this makes my poll illrelevant. I wish Mat would post some of these forum messages on ALL the forums.

The poll is still relevant, it just means it won't make a difference!

Looks like Im the only one who likes the annonymousses (or whatever the word is)

I hope they find a way to allow registered users to post annonymously, for reasons I mentioned earlier (Conspiracies, Card Counters, that sort of thing).
Otherwise, as I also said earlier, maybe people could email a member annonymously and get the messages posted pooppoop style.

As to mentioning it on all forums..its at the top in biiig letters!!

As many people have pointed out, registering does not take away anonymity. The reason we are forced to make people register is so I have control over geniuses like ramashiva. It only takes one person to screw up the forums for everyone. The only way that I can effectively intervene is by implementing this new policy. It is not something that Mason, nor I, wanted.

we are not blessed with supertrolls like him, but controlling the IP sure will save time.

cowards can just use another email addy, so their message will still get through. it just will require a bit of effort.
