Pre-Flop Raises

Is there a definitive mathematical guide as to how much we should raise pre-flop, since we aren't tied to limit raises in NL cash games?

I've read anywhere from 2x-10x the BB.

A common line is 4Xbb+1BB per limper. I more or less follow that rule.
