View Full Version : A routine TPTK fold (I think)

1st orbit at the table; villain has only played one hand where he open minraised QJs UTG+1, got 3 callers, called a 1/2 pot bet on a 9-high flop with none of his suit (made it HU with him in position vs. the BB), checked behind on the turn, then raised a 1/8-pot river bet to 1/2 pot (on a 98684 board with no flush possible) and took it down. The BB showed Q9o as he folded and villain showed his Q-high no-hand no-draw. Long-winded read description, but that's all I know about him at this point.

Change the turn to UTG not MP. Fold seems pretty decent. If he keeps making donk moves this is a call, but otherwise I like it.

How is it routine when he's shown a bluff? Doesn't that make it not routine as you have to give some thought that he could be bluffing? Anyways, I don't really have an opinion on this. It can go either way. He could be bluffing, he could easily have you crushed. He calls raises with garbage and bluffs with garbage, but that doesn't mean his garbage can't flop monsters. I'd probably fold, I don't know, though.. :-/

Well, that's why I wasn't sure. It seems like every time I call a bet like this, though, I end up losing the pot. I can't put him on a hand with any confidence but, at the time, it really felt like he had 88, made a bad call on the flop, and now I'm drawing dead.

I'd play it the same way. Without much of a read, I lean towards giving people credit for their hands.

It sounds like that bluff was an exercise in image-building; I too would give him credit for a hand.

And additional cards seem more likely to help him than you; you've got few outs to improve. So calling just doesn't seem right.

You could push, and really test him. There's a reasonable chance you're ahead and you get fold equity. But the sober, disciplined, recently-winning-a-few-bucks-at-this-game me would fold it.

After sitting at the table for a few more rounds with this guy, I think it was a correct fold. When he's bluffing, he underbets the pot and when he has something good, he uses UB's oh-so-convenient 'bet pot' button. I think the worst hand he could have had was A8 and I don't have enough outs even against that to call.

To the person who said pushing would put him to the test, thanks for the humor /images/graemlins/smile.gif He's only got about $3 left after the $14.25 bet so I don't see him getting away.

Doh! /images/graemlins/blush.gif I always forget to check stack sizes on these posts. Sorry....

UB lets you fold face up?
