This was a rerun. You can tell because Gabe Kaplan will never make a final table again.

SoftcoreRevolt

Correct because he will bust the entire table in one hand while it is still 9 handed.

I watched this episode last night, I realize it was a rerun but was this one of the bigger choke jobs you have seen HU or what?

Lee Watkinson played so well from 5 handed to get heads up with a 3-1 stack advantage:
-Pushed his edges as a shortstack
-Rode momentum and made some great aggressive plays while 3 handed

Then in HU the guy just falls apart and the blinds were still very manageable but he showed no patience and really seemed to go on tilt after Eli tricked him on the first hand trapping with his ace.

The call of the 500,000 bet on the turn when he had 10-6 on a board of AKK8 (Eli had a K)had to be one of the worst calls I have ever seen. He made the call so hesitently and the inflection in his voice made it so obvious he had nothing and was nervous as hell. It almost seemed like his cheering section goaded him into making a play on a pot when there was no play to be made. He's lucky that ELI bet, if he would have checked Lee surely would have moved in to try and save face on a woefully played hand that ended up pairing a 10 on the river . You can't call a 500,000 raise and not make a move on the pot river if your opponnent checks. Lee seemed really pressured to save face on this hand and I don't know why...

Then he pushes over the top of another Eli 500,000 raise with AQ with 54s All in. At this point Eli had slow played enough hands it was time to raise and actual good hand.

Lee showed no patience or tact when HU watsoever.

Or at least in the limited action that was televised.

You thought that was bad, wait until they air last night's final table at Reno. Ivey had a 3-1 lead as well. I'm sure he will not be viewed as choking though. He's Phil Ivey.

But that might just be TV editing.

Heh, I clicked through the link. It was interesting to see that Gabe has had success in several different forms of poker, and over many years. But that's not what cracked me up....

"Picture unavailable" - LOL, it's not like a Google search couldn't get you about 5000 pictures of Gabe Kaplan!

Oh yeah, the other thing that cracked me up from the WPT coverage, was the interviews of the other players re: Gabe. The guys who didn't grow up here hadn't heard of WBK!

Of course, I'm easily amused /images/graemlins/smile.gif

So you want everyone to grind it out like you? Affleck could clearly afford it, so why would he try to learn the harder way because some loser on the Internet wants everything in life to be fair?

When you think about it, why do rich people get such awesome cars, too? Stop whining about your life.

What? You think he never practiced, he just got lessons from Duke and charged out successfully? Clearly that wasn't exactly the case. I don't see why people who can afford it wouldn't take lessons from a pro. Helmuth charges 25K a day or something, from what I've heard, which I found ridiculous, but if you can throw around that kind of cash, go for it.

Aren't there three bridemaids on the WPT? Scotty, Phil Ivey, and John Juanda have all made numerous final tables in the WPT with no wins.

Mike Cuneo
05-16-2005, 07:27 PM
Scotty is a great player but he played horrible at the FT. Mike Sexton's quote that it was "just one of those nights, we've all had them" is false. Calling 500k with A9 vs Juanda without thinking it through was a mistake. Also calling an all in for 700k with AQo was a mistake. Sexton said he would also be suspicious of why someone would move in for 700k when blinds were low (maybe 20-40k). I would think Scotty would wait for a better spot with so little invest in the pot (he was SB). It's like someone pushing all in for $1k in a $10-10 game preflop. Either they have AA or something like 72o just to show off. And in that spot, KK becomes a good laydown. AQo is junk when faced with 700k and only 20k in the pot. Then Scotty moves in with 66 and runs into JJ. That's understandable, but he still had 400k left and was utg, why move in with 66? Scotty did have bad luck but could have played much better and more carefully.

i thought i was the only one that saw him and hellmuth on that show.

that show was pretty interesting. it showed scotty and his family at their house. he said he had to support like 30 people with his paycheck every month.

hellmuth actually had some good insight also.
