Where do you guys get your music?

I am looking for a place to download music that:

-does not have any spyware, viruses or any crap of the sort
-has a very large and thorough selection of music
-is easy to find music and has fast downloads
-legality doesn't matter, but i don't mind paying if the stipulations cannot otherwise be met

I just tried downloading napster's free trial, only to discovery they have virtually no music. Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

i use limewire. the spyware isnt bad at all. i dont get any ugly applications starting up on my computer, because i have spybot teatimer. if you really want spyware free, then limewire pro is probably good for that. i dont know though, they might throw in spyware without your consent anyway.

You can use the free LimeWire to download LimeWire Pro.

Likewise, you can use the free BearShare to download BearShare pro.

I, of course, have never done this, but I hear tell of people who have.

i've tried this, but can't find any good sites. Can you suggest any? My biggest problem has been finding a good selection and an easy place to download from. Are there no spyware or virus problems with this?

find a good bittorrent search engine; most of the good ones i used to use have been shut down, unfortunately.

I just use iTunes. I don't mind supporting the artists I like and it's still a lot cheaper than buying CDs.

It's not like anyone here can't afford it, either.

iTunes has respectable quality (certainly better than Kazaa or whatever) and I don't have to worry about a) finding songs b) spyware or c) leaglity.

if i'm paying for music (which i do most of the time), i want a cd, not a restricted computer audio file recorded at a low bitrate.

Oh yeah, and here's the obligatory "I get mine at the local music shop, you cheap pirate sonofabitch".

For the lazy:

"Of this, major label artists will end up with only 8 to 14 cents per song, depending on their contract. Many of them will never Artists Get Ripped Off. even see this paltry share because they have to pay for producers and recording costs, both of which can be enormous. Until the musician "recoups" these costs, when you buy an iTunes song, the label gives them nothing."

FYI

It's the same way with hard copies. Artists don't make their money selling albums. They make it touring. How many of them do you think would do any touring at all if that wasn't where most of their money came from?
