View Full Version : Cardrooms in or around Boston???

11-26-2002, 12:16 PM
I recently moved from the land of many cardrooms (southern California) to Boston. Are there any cardrooms even in this state? Does anyone know what the nearest cardroom would be? I think there are some indian casinos around here somewhere, are regular cardrooms legal like in CA? I have been itching to play in a real cardroom, tho im not looking forward to the cigarette smoke that I find in every location out here.

Anyway can someone tell me the closest cardroom to Boston?

Thanks.

Sorry to have to break it to you, but you're going to be playing at the Foxhole - about 100 miles to the South West in Conneticut (sp?).

Its famous for its fast friendly dealers, efficient floor-people and the low ambient noise from the PA system.

You gonna love it down there...

Enjoy!

Foxwoods is about an hour and a half from Boston. The drive bites. The board can be really long too, I would call and put my name on the list at about exit 6. They are non smoking though. I am always looking for games in Boston if you find anyhting or want to set something up. marc.

Thanks for the responses guys. What town is Foxwoods in? I sold my car before I left CA because I don't need it here so unless I can take a train I am screwed. I take the train down to NY ever couple months to see a buddy. Are there cardrooms in NY?

mob i used to have a weekly home game in san diego, we played $40-$100 buy in NL HE (more Omaha 8/b towards the end) with blinds of .25/.50. i would love to sit in on a game in Boston. i just don't know anyone out here yet.

I am almost positive there are cheap busses out to Foxwoods from Boston...call Foxwoods for details...www.foxwoods.com The casino is like 45 minutes past Hartford, and Mohegan Sun is like 20 mins away. Never been to Mohegan, but Foxwoods has a real nice room. When you're in NY, take the bus from Port Authority to Atlantic City and The Taj Mahal (like 2.5 or 3 hrs)...busses leave on the half hour..check www.greyhound.com (http://www.greyhound.com) for more details.

depending on what limit you play, you may find the Taj to be a better fit. For Hold'em, Foxwoods has a 10-20 game with a half kill as the highest holdem game (unless you count the 75-150 HOSE game). The Taj has a wide variety of every conceivable hold'em limit and more hold'em tables to choose from.
Plus at Foxwoods it's mostly the same group of guys there all the time, and don't think they don't take shots at the new guy. I'd bet my life that there are teams working together at the hold'em tables at Foxwoods.

Thats not true. Foxwoods has way more than that for Hold Em. For a bus check out TravelPack and Sunshine tours....real cheap bus. They give you a voucher too. I wish someone would start up a Boston game. I don't have the room for it.

Not true. Foxwoods almost always spreads a 15/30 Hold 'em and I've seen both 24/40 and pot limit as well.

If you're going to take a bus from Boston to Foxwoods, all you have to do is go down to South Station and buy a ticket. The busses leave every 30-60 minutes. The ticket should cost you $20-$25 but you will get (1) free buffet comp worth about $12-$15, (2) a $10 "Match Play" comp which allows you to make a $20 wager while only betting $10 on games like roulette, blackjack, etc., and (3) some other $10 coupon possibly for free Keno tickets.

Not true regarding the limits at Foxwoods. I played 20-40 there two weeks ago. Their big tournament was going on, and they had six tables going at that limit. That was the exception, but I assume they have at least one table going regularly. Through the end of the year they are giving players $3 an hour comp (that is a lot for CT). They also had a 50-100 game going (Barry Shulman and Phil Hellmuth were in this game).

I play in the 20-40 holdem at the Mohegan Sun regularly. They usually have at least one table going on weekends, and depending if players are pissed off at Foxwoods, they sometimes have one or two must move games.

You really should check each of these casinos out. Foxwoods has the largest handle of any casino in the world. It just goes on and on. Mohegan Sun is the third largest, and they have just finished a huge renovation. It is very nice.

Both casinos have promotions from time to time where they offer $99 room rates, but they are offered to players who already have a players card.

Enjoy.
