View Full Version : Is it only cream that rises to the top? (Poll)

This is a slightly amended poll to the one posted earlier in other forums.

Now that you have seen the thread-bumping by "saboteurs" in action in this particular forum:

Can't there be an option on how to display posts - re: bumping threads to the top. Seems stupid not to be able to choose.

Pretty close so far 9 to 8 in favor of No. However, I'd like to see poll results that included the option to move threads to the top if a poll in them was responded to.

I'd also like to see an easily available option to see the threads that I've already responded to. I know its there but you have to dig to get to it and I think more people would use this if it were a button option, say, between "My Home" and "Who's Online" (e.g., "My Threads").

I still haven't figured out how to use the many of the features under "My Home" such as the one for Favorite Threads. How does one add items to this section?

It's new, they will get bored of it.

Personally I think it's a good thing, it means I can post a thread like "Granny on a Rush" and it will vanish pretty quickly, whilst something about ACR or KGC can be bumped to top fairly often without having to redirect people to appropriate posts.

We just have to wait a little while for the excitable contingent to settle down.

Of course, if it were possible, it would be better if only registered users posts bumped to the top, and anonymous posts could stay where they were.

I think the new format stinks. I like to see threads sorted by date of origination. I can then quickly know where the threads I am looking for are. I am in control of where the threads are instead of whomever responded last. Just my 1 cent worth......

Thanks,

Sounds good to me. Or the users should also have the options of how the threads are listed (ie. the current way, or the old way).

until bumping appeared i had my page set to display the last 30 posts in chronological order - as jim said, this let me know where they were and i could look immediately for the ones i was interested in - very rarely did any thread hold anyone's interest longer than it took to drop to 31st spot

now, in theory, the latest 30 threads could be left behind by troll-bumpers before many members have even seen them

i would guess that the system is all or nothing and i doubt if the other forums are suffering as badly as this one ... so i hope you are right, lori, because i suspect we are stuck with what we've got

Nobody is exactly stuck. There were many requests for this change, but if it turns out to be a problem, we will be happy to go back. Mason preferred it the other way, and I have no preference. Give it a week, then someone should remind me to put out another poll. I'll make sure to let people know which forum they should go to in order to vote. Obviously offering a choice would be ideal, but it does not appear to be an option. I banned Wilhelm Kuhlman, primarily, because he abused this system and will happily bar others as well. Even anonymous posters can be somewhat controlled by banning the ip address. Make sure to notify me in this event.

Just curious Mat, do you play anywhere online?

On rare occasions. I don't have the patience for poker to play more than a couple hours a month.

Maybe you could sponsor a Mat Sklansky Pokergame for Impatient Players? Say, the MatSPIT, for a snappy title.

The game would only last for two hours at most; escalating blinds every round or two, sort of thing. Whatever you say.

It would be a bit of fun, and it would make everyone like you again.

Free entry - you would give the winner 100 bucks; and a signed photograph for the losers.

Thank you, Mat - count me in.

You are a good man.

Please show your support for Mat's idea in the usual way, fellow 2+2-ers.

How many 2400th posts do you have?

lorinda

This is a very old post.

Any post that Granny has will be called the 2400th post, so she will have 2400 of them.

I tried to vote in Mike's poll.

I clicked my selection and kept getting "You have not selected anything". ??
