so i was looking over the debit card option with neteller, i clicked where it says "CLICK HERE TO APPLY FOR A NETELLER DEBIT CARD NOW!"

so naturally i clicked it wanting to look at the application, then it says "thank you, your card will be shipped in 3 weeks, blah blah blah"

i am somewhat interested in it, is it worth it to those who have it? or any other pros and cons to it?

anyone wanna help a brotha out?

I believe there are quite a few fees associated with it.

yea i saw that, a fee to put money into your debitcard since tis not directly to your account, a fee to take money out via atm, a fee for not using it in 30 days.

i was hoping someone would chime in with the pros of this card.

if you never take it out of your desk drawer then it costs absolutely nothing. they send it to you for free because they HOPE you will use it and they can charge you fees.

same thing like they try to upsell instacash over standard EFT.

I have never used the neteller debit card myself and I don't find the fee schedule enticing enough to ever try. it's easy enough for me to just EFT back to my regular checking account and use my "home" bank debit card.

Some people seem to think that these cards can be used to hide cashouts from the IRS. I would advise against doing this for several reasons:

1) The use of offshore debit cards for this purpose is well known to the IRS.

2) The Neteller card is issued by a U.S. Bank, so while above may not apply, there is greater risk of transactions getting flagged.

3) Hiding money using a debit card like this can show intent, which means criminal penalties.

I don't have one and don't evade taxes and don't recommend doing so, but... so what? They know about the scheme, but as far as I can tell there is little to nothing they can do about it.

I was fairly certain that there were inactivity fees associated with the card that ramped up the longer it sat unused. I accidently got one, read the terms, and sent them an email to cancel it (which they did promptly).

I'd double-check that to make sure you haven't been charged. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure, as that was the reason I cancelled it instead of just not using it.

thats inactivity from when you withraw money to the card and then don't cash it out. they aren't going to charge you if you order the card and don't withdraw.

i use the card for my regular running around cash. i happily pay the $5.25/$1,000 fee rather than cashing large checks or adding to the amount of EFT's i have in a year. this has nothing to do with tax evasion. the more eft activity one has, the bigger chance of being looked at as part of P-Act bullshit rules. i have no problem with the IRS requirements, i just like getting cash from one source and using eft for the rest of it.

as another poster said, don't activate it and it won't cost a dime. keep it around in case you have an emergency one day.

I've had one about six months that I never used. Haven't had a fee charged yet.

the "dormant" charge only applies if you have a balance currently on the card. if you never load it, there is no penalty.

What if you withdraw the entire balance everytime you transfer money to the card?

Hi,

There was a big news story where the IRS went to court and got all the VISA/MC accounts of US residents issues from non US banks.

I believe it was posted on 2+2 in response to a question about the neteller debit card which degraded into a 'what if' thread about using an offshore bank account and an offshore banks VISA/MC to pay for basicly everything.

Later,
MarkV.

Where are you able to make a $1000 withdrawal at one time using a Neteller card? I did quite a bit of research on this and I couldn't find a bank, ATM, or reatail outlet of any kind that would let you take out more than $500 at a time.
