Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t15 (8 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

SB (t710)
BB (t2160)
Hero (t785)
UTG+1 (t1060)
MP1 (t715)
MP2 (t760)
CO (t1065)
Button (t745)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 6/images/graemlins/club.gif, 6/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
Hero calls t15, 2 folds, MP2 raises to t60, 4 folds, Hero calls t45.

I'm thinking "play this for set value," of course. And the price is cheap. Villain's most likely holding is two big cards.

Flop: (t142.50) 7/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, T/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 3/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets t50, Hero raises to t200, MP2 calls t150.

No set, no bet, right? Small bet from Villain induces an immediate check-raise bluff attempt from Hero with such an innocuous board. I figure this display of strength folds two big cards... [censored], he called. Could still have two big cards but I gotta respect a wired overpair now.

Turn: (t542.50) A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets t120, Hero folds.

Could there be an uglier turn card? Hero's testicles shrivel into stomach. Hero feels like a jackass for his flop play but wonders if it is +EV considering the blah flop.

I'd muck this preflop, but if I did limp I'd probably fold it to the raise. I've recently turned fanatical about hanging onto my chips during levels 1-3 though so keep that in mind.

Let's talk about the postflop play.

I personally don't like it, considering that you'll probably get called on the flop more often than you'd like at this blind level. I think it's important that you avoid fancy plays like this early on. Just play ABC until level 4 or so, and then you can pull this kind of stuff a little easier.

I realize my posts probably don't carry much weight since I haven't been here long, but I thought I'd give my two cents. I would like your flop play a lot more if it were level 2 or 3. In the 11s in level 1 I've seen AK/AQ call that check-raise sooooo many times and then proclaim that they were pot-committed. I think that a lot of typical 11 players make calls like this in level 1 because they figure they'll either double up or bust out and join another tourney.

So in sum, I like your thinking, but not this early in the tournament at this buy-in.

I might pass on this move, its very early and 200 is alot of chips to lose for a rather minor gain at this point. If you have a certain read on this guy this becomes a better play.

I think the most important factor here is that, because its a 10+1, you cannot define "high cards" as not including a 10.

You may correctly read them for "high-cards", and be shown KTo
