View Full Version : Mahatma rumor

Overheard this weekend at Commerce:

Mahatma is supposedly backed by Ben Affleck. They had a 70/30 split (70% to Ben) for the first $100K or so that M made. No idea when this supposedly started or if the arrangement's scheduled to end at some point.

Has anyone else heard something like this, or is this just another example of why you shouldn't believe anything you hear at a poker table?

Mahatma is also Spirit Rock, who has been killing big NL games online for a while now. I am pretty sure this is not true.

Did you overhear this while playing 40-80?

This is clearly a case of people not believing everything you read on an interenet forum.

I'd guess that you overheard a conversation that I was a part of, and have grossly mis-reported what was said. (I was the young white guy in seat 7).

What was said was that Afleck USED TO stake Mahatma, until something happened.

It should also be noted that I told my 'source' that I wouldn't pass along any of the info he told me (he's into gossip...I was victimized by sitting there...I certainly didn't ask at all), so I won't answer any questions about this. I would just say that anybody reading here should realize that the OP clearly misheard what was said.

As an interesting side note...the guy telling me this was the same guy who made helmuth lay down KK in the WSOP main event last year...you may have recognized him...

So what did he have? Please tell me Hellmuths KK would have been good...

I think this much was obvious even before your post /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Certainly not my place to say.

It's kinda funny though...He told me about that hand the night that it happened. Then, when it first aired on TV, I was also playing with him. The entire table/casino grilled him about it for a while.

Good times....

Now that you have corrected this guy, I also find this hard to believe.

was this before he won $150,000 in a bellagio tourney, before Prahlad was playing $400-800, before he won a WSOP bracelet, before he was a 25-50, 50-100 and 100-200 online player, before he won $500,000 at the WSOP event, before....

I mean c'mon, all signs point to Prahlad being 100% in it for himself, unless like 6 years ago Ben wandered into the Bay Area and decided that he'd stake some unknown kid.

I believe Phil has said that on his site that his KK would have been good (vs. 77 maybe?). There is a HUGE chance that I'm wrong though.

If the deal was right, EVERYBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would want to be staked.

I think that was a different hand where he had QQ and the other guy showed him 77 after he made him fold.
