I've got some leftover hamburgers that I'd like to eat right now, but the microwave is broken. Fixing the microwave is not possible. Using someone else's microwave is not possible (it's 2 AM right now).

So I need to heat up the hamburgers without using a microwave. I have an oven available, but I've never used it to reheat hamburgers before. Has anyone tried it? Does it work well? Is there another solution that I am overlooking?

Low heat in a covered fry pan.

Hmm. That should do the trick. But I have no cooking experience at all so I could potentially screw this up. Even though it sounds easy.

A little oil in the pain to keep it from sticking; a little water to build up some steam to help heat it through evenly.

How much is a "little"?

I'll go see if I can start to get this set up. With any luck I'll have my food ready before it's time for breakfast!

Enough oil to coat the pan with a very thin layer... shouldn't take no more than a tablespoon.

Probably a tablespoon or 2 of water. You don't need to boil it, just want to make some steam.

Is there any specific type of oil I'm supposed to use for this? I looked around for some stuff in the kitchen, but one of the things it says is something like "Do not pour water on hot or flaming oil."

wrap them in tin foil and your good to go. Throw the microwave out the window. 50$ at walmart get you a new one.

The type doesn't matter as long as you ain't trying to use motor oil.

If you put water on hot oil, it splashes back. Ever put something frozen in a deep fryer? It's that kind of effect.

No need to worry about that though cause you're only adding enough oil to thin coat the bottom of the pan so the burger doesn't stick when you're trying to heat it up.

Results:

I wasn't quite sure how long to heat them up... the first one didn't end up very hot but it still tasted ok. The second one was warmer but it tasted slightly different, or maybe I was just imagining it. (I think it may be the result of the outside burning slightly?)

When I was finished I took the pan over to the sink to rinse it off because I've learned that when you just let those things sit around, it gets much harder to scrub all of the crap off them later. At that point I got a demonstration of why you're not supposed to pour water on hot oil, and I felt very smart.

Thanks for all the help.
