I've seen guys do this too, but not as much as women.

Pretty harmless piece of vanity.

What's more harmful is how seriously some people think good handwriting is a window to the soul or something, and how things like whether you write your an "i" straight or crooked says so much about whether you yourself are morally upright or have criminal tendencies, etc. People dream up really crazy ideas, and dummies just gobble them up like they were mana from heaven instead of idiotic and potentially harmful.
