I don't want to spend a lot of money and I don't need a full set, but I'd like the clubs to be good so I won't be replacing them once I learn more about the game. I'm thinkin I should just a driver, a 5 iron, something to chip with, and a putter, but I have no idea what I should look for in a club. Suggestions?

Not a club suggestion, but I've always been a fan of 2nd Swing :

Check to see if there's any in your area. It's mostly used but you find a lot of clubs that look like they were never even used and at good prices. Doesn't sound like you're too serious about golf so buying some used clubs seems like the +EV way to go.

If you don't need a full set, there's no way you should get a driver. Get a 13-15* 3-wood, odd numbered irons from 3 to 9, a 56* sand wedge, and putter.

I've been to a 2nd Swing, and I thought it was ridiculously overpriced. Then again, it was in an upscale mall so maybe they had to charge more than usual to pay the rent. Any used set from a golf shop or sporting goods store will probably be on ebay for less.

Definitely go with a used/cheap set at first. Even if you're sure that you're going to stick with golf, you don't yet know what you need or want in a golf club. The only way to find out is to get some sticks and go play a few rounds.
