View Full Version : Songs we played on the Rudy's jukebox

NYC is brutal. Wednesday night we do some quatro de mayo celebrating at Mexican Radio. We don't really have anything, yet our bill is hundreds of dollars.

Thursday night we try to do Cinco de Mayo at Radio Mexico, but that is insane, so we fall back to Jeremy's Ale House. Where they have QUARTS OF BEER IN STYROFOAM CUPS. Which means, before the evening got started, we had all had A GALLON OF BEER. Then on to Rogue. Where we met up w/ some girls. And then on to The Black Door. Everything went the way it should, though we all got way too drunk.

Tonight we wanted to go to the Guggenheim. So we went to the Pound and Pence. Then we went to dinner at Delta Grill. Then we went to Rudy's to meet some FIT chicks. That part worked out. As did the 12 pitchers of beers. But somehow, one chick got all drunk and emotional about her boyfriend or something and then everything went to hell, well, for everyone except one guy. So we ended up not going to the Guggenheim or to Standing Room Only (which sounds cool as hell) and instead got drunk at Rudy's and came home. But at least we got to dominate the jukebox there. Here is what we played:

Journey: Any Way You Want It
Journey: Don't Stop Believing
Def Leppard: Animal
Def Leppard: Pour Some Sugar On Me
Def Leppard: Photograph
Night Ranger: You Can Still Rock In America
The Pixies: Where Is My Mind?
The Pixies: Gigantic
Cheap Trick: I Want You to Want Me
Cheap Trick: Dream Police
Rolling Stones: Little T&A
Ace of Base: The Sign

Enjoyable read.

But this-

Journey: Any Way You Want It
Journey: Don't Stop Believing
Cheap Trick: I Want You to Want Me
Cheap Trick: Dream Police

All tongue in cheek I hope.

These 4 songs, coupled with Def Leppard: Pour Some Sugar On Me are quite possibly the greatest mix of bar songs you can play.

Depending on the bar.

And I contend that anyone playing a Journey song on a jukebox should be killed. If I had been there, either the jukebox or the song player would have been shot dead.

While most Journey songs suck, these two are awesome.

I didn't know you were here. I was at Radio Mexico and Jeremy's last (thurs) night.

This is the greatest juke box list ever. Personally, I would have traded out Ace of Base for The Outfield: Lose Your Love Tonight.

We realized we had skipped the Jovi and were going to go back, but it was too late at that point. We also tried to do some G&R and AC/DC but they had no good G&R songs (we were gonna do either Sweet Child or Paradise City) and no AC/DC (prob go with You Shook Me All Night Long).

Of course, pretty much a tossup. We might have actually played Separate Ways now that I think about it.

Journey=death...

On a side note though... I once saw Kansas, Eddie Money, Peter Frampton, Styx, Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Bad Company... surprisingly enough Journey wasn't the worst show.

Any Way You Want It is by far Journey's best song, but overall they blow.

Yeah, even though it rules, we thought Sister Christian was too slow and would bring down the rockin' vibe we had going at the bar.

The correct Night Ranger song is "When You Close Your Eyes". Otherwise, great list. We need more people like you to battle all the horrible jukebox jockies of the world.

<vomiting cheap beer that costs $15/pint in some bullshit NYC bar>

Three Def Leppard songs is iffy. Ace of Base is unfathomably bad. Best thing to do is claim misclick and move on.

<shoulder aside>

If I Should Fall from Grace with God
Lookin Out My Back Door
Back In Black
Kryptonite
If I Had A Million Dollars
Kashmir
Sultans of Swing
Friends in Low Places
Welcome to the Jungle
One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer
Free Bird
Enter Sandman
Fat Bottomed Girls
Southern Accent (live version)

...then you drive downcountry ....

I Love This Bar
Hank and George and Waylan and Garth and Wayne

...then you hit an Irish bar....

If I Should Fall from Grace with God
Fairytale of New York
The Ferryman and Paddy Lie Back (Dublin City Ramblers)
Whiskey in the Jar
Tim Finnigan's Wake
Delirium Tremens and Ordinary Man (Christy Moore)
Then the good stuff, which is live and served with cold beer in Southy.

And I nominate The Pogues as the best bar band of all time.

Matt

Take Me To The River
Road To Nowhere
Wild Wild Life

Need a few more Blues tunes also (difficult to find on Jukebox though)

Hoochie Coochie Man - Muddy Waters (or others versions)
Roll Your Moneymaker - Hound Dog Taylor (or others versions)
Hawaiian Boogie - Hound Dog Taylor (or others versions)

And one for the road:

Highway To Hell - AC/DC

I had a little set-back on Friday, but I'm not going to let this bring me down too much. I'm going to dust off and keep going. I'll not let it affect me even as much as a one outer against me on the river.
