Seems to me like its really bad timing for their current anti-player movement.
1) Sites that have been growing slowly and gaining ground such as PokerRoom and Absolute, openly support rakeback. On PokerRoom skins you can get up to 40% back, paid by the site, directly to your account. Absolute is similar.
2) The old battle cry "BUT PARTY HAS ALL THE FISH, SO ITS THE BEST" is no longer true. They have the most games, and no doubt there are a lot of good games with bad players, but now you have to really look. The games are tightening up at ALL limits. Many of the better players on this board will attest to finding easier games around.
3) GamesGrid opens up and shows how a week old site can get 20-30 full tables going during peak hours. They may or may not stay this good, but I DOUBT this went unoticed by some savy in development poker room or managers of other rooms.
