Of course this has been asked before, but please don't flame. The Stud Forum is always great, so I don't anticipate problems. I own 7CSFAP, and I think it's the best, but I was thinking about picking up another Stud book for the fun of it. Do you guys prefer Adams' book or Wests? For what Reasons?

try 'hi lo split poker' by Zee... any good stud player should be at least competent in hi lo...

I thought west was pretty good for straightforward low limits no tricks play when I was first starting out. Being that you have read all those others though I think it would be a waste of time, effort, and money.

You are probably right. But the lack of poker books coming out now is making me sad.

wait till June

Barry Greensteins's book is coming out (any interest in playing 400-800 and higher???) It should be a fun read

And Harrington on Holdem volume 2 should also come out in june

According to Amazon, 7CSFAP only covers Stud Hi, and that HiLoSplitFAP is a the book for 7cs8. Is this true?

Winning Poker Systems, by Norman Zadeh has some info that is worthwhile on stud... (It also covers draw and lowball). I just started reading the other day, but is seems solid.

I read the first round of replies but i STILL THINK rOY wESTS BOOK IS WORTH A READ. dam caps lock)

Some the "other stuff" contained in it is really worth while although it is fairly well know already

That being said I would suggest Konstantin Othmers book Seven Card Stud Poker.

KEn warren has come out with a new 7 card stud book I havent read it and dont know anyone who has.

Has anyone here done so?

yup

[/ QUOTE ]so for someone who plays just stud8, there's very little reason to get 7csfap then?

Has anybody read 11 Days to 7 Stud Success by Mike Caro? Any reviews? I just saw this book on Greg Raymers website and the title seemed intriging.

I just want to agree with Timmer on the Roy West book. It helped me a lot starting out. I think it's hard for people who have played poker long enough to read 7cs4ap with no comprehension problems to remember what is like to be a complete newbie. Roy West's book will have you winning at a nice clip in lower/mid-limit games. the SMZ book will take you from that intermediate winning player status to expert level play.

That being said, with the section on loose games, 7cs4ap is the only "must have" stud book. I just liked the West book a lot starting out.

Even if you only play stud/8, I think 7CS4AP is worth having.

And I don't feel like making a separarate post, but I cannot endorse the West book.
