I've never heard this one before. last night someone said: I'd classify that guy as random-aggressive .

Random meaning any two cards. I would assume it would be the same as loose.

Hmmmm... I would take "random" here to mean that he is sometimes aggressive and sometimes not. /forums/images/icons/confused.gif I don't think that is the same as loose aggressive, which implies more hands played aggressively than a person who is just "randomly" aggressive. /forums/images/icons/ooo.gif Actually, now that I think about it, "random" aggresive may be the same as "selective" aggressive /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif LGPG, Babe /forums/images/icons/heart.gif

shame on you pokerbabe as you well know, while random/aggressive is certainly different from loose aggressive it no way implies selectively aggressive.

That perfectly characterizes a few people I've played with. I interpret it to mean that they randomly choose when to be aggressive, but they don't play very well. Like, sometimes they'll try to run you off a monster with no part of the board, or they'll raise five mediocre hands pre-flop and then they won't play a hand for twenty minutes, then they'll start raising again. . .

"random-aggressive"

what do you think are the traits of the random aggressive player?

btw ive given up on tight aggressive and the whole loose/tight--passive/aggressive matrix. i just doesnt hold water in a lot of ways. tight/aggressive does not win the money. tough and tricky does. players are soft or tough and simple or tricky. or something like that. it's all in my book.

what do you think are the traits of the random aggressive player?

the player in question was very loose (played almost every hand), and was given to random episodes of betting and raising. when had to show his hand, the aggression was rarely justified.

I think selective-aggressive is the correct term. this means that you are not just playing tight, you are playing those hands that give you the opportunity to win in the given situation.

it's all in my book.
