Back in January when I got a new lap top, I set my girlfriend up with an account on Pokerstars. I put $50 in it and showed her the .02/.04 and .05/.10 games.
Well in about a week she was playing 4-tables at a time and playing .5/1, she was not ready to do either of these things. We had a talk and I gave her $100 more (at the time I was playing 1/2 so $100 was significant to me).
The same thing happend. We had another talk, and she said that Poker was just fun for her and she was not concerned with winning. At the time I would never withdraw my winnings I would just build my Bankroll to play on a higher level, so I really did not mind giving her $50 here and there, because I was doing well.
Fast forward to 3 weeks ago. I am now playing 5/10 and have decided to withdraw half of my monthly winnings, to help pay bills (we live together). I also have other obligations (alimony, child support, day care), so although I do not "need" this money to survive, I do "need" it to keep from constantly running a month behind on my bills.
So we had a talk 3-weeks ago, she said she wanted to get serious, do the bonus whoring thing etc..... So I gave her another $300, against my advice she played the 1/2 5-max game on Paradise. She actually did fairly well and doubled her money. But then she withdrew a portion and then hit a losing streak. Anyway she is broke as far as her Poker account goes.
Today she asked me to tranfer her some more money and I said no. I gave her my reasons as follows.
1. I have probably already given her $700 since January.
2. She refuses to adhere to any reasonable form of bankroll management.
3. She does not really bother to do anything to get better.
4. I now use money from poker winnings to help make ends meet, and giving her money takes away from that.
5. Sometimes it takes me a lot of hands at 5/10 to make $200 if I am running bad.
6. It really bothers me to watch her Donk away my money to her opponents.
7. When I blew most of my Bankroll back in November, I dropped down from 1/2 to .05/.1 to rebuild and did not complain, because I Knew I had been stupid.
8. There are a bunch of people in the microlimit and Small Stakes forums who have or are currently worked/working their way up in a relatively short period of time.
So am I a dickhead?
