im sorry if i was unclear, i was more interested in finding out if there was someone i could go to talk to me about this sort of thing, so i didnt have to read it online.
if i want to become a christian, i might go to a pastor.
if i want to become a buddhist, i go where?

can i just go up to a monk and start talking to him? i am not sure if this is how it works. hollywood has given me a weird impression of buddhist churches. i imagine monks practicing kung fu in the courtyards, and i wouldnt want to disturb one of them.

A good forum about buddhism. (http://www.lioncity.net/buddhism/)

Contains lot of questions such as yours. What you can expect when u visit a temple for first time etc.

Two good books, easy to understand.

my new thing is taking time to be a jackass.

it's a lot of effort at times, but, in the end, denigrating someone is worth it.

may I be your disciple?

Why even have this message board? All the answers are on the internet.

They´ll be happy to help you. Just visit a temple and start asking.

Take care

this reminds me of the time i looked into joining a cult. most of them had expensive membership fees and wouldnt reveal their gathering locations until after the fees were paid. even the more notable cults!
needless to say, i did not join a cult.

yet.

BeliefNet Buddhism (http://aol.beliefnet.com/index/index_10001.html)

There is a forum as well as links to various sites on meditating, temples, Zen etc etc. Just look on that general page and youl'l see what I'm talking about.

Hope that helped a bit. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

i forget which cult it is, the one that claimed they cloned the first human. the coverage that they were getting sort of piqued my interest. I wasnt really sure how an organization that is known as a cult could have members join them.
So no, i never really wanted to join a cult. But if they had meetings that i could attend without paying money, i would, just to see what its all about.

Similar to how i am approaching buddhism at the moment. I dont really know much about their teachings/structure, but i guess there's 350million+ members, so its something im interested in learning more about.

Buddhism was never meant to become a religion, thats just what men turned it into over time. Buddha himself was agnostic
