That was totally my answer, though I listen to the accoustic set 10 times more than the electric.

As an alternative I will suggest "Live in Italy" by Lou Reed.

that Police album only sold about 50000 copies, I heard...(released way too late after the band broke up)-

but I have one - of course, I had dubbed the Synchronicity concert from videotape to audio a long time before that, and it's a better Atlanta concert then the one they included from the CD the night before or afterwards....still

While I won't nominate it for best live album, I'd be pretty close to giving them the best performance award - the sound they got from 3 guys (and backup singers later on) is almost unmatched.

I was pretty disappointed that Bob's Chronicles Vol 1. didn't cover this time period or the Blood on the Tracks period, but I think he'll get to them eventually.

to me, it's just a classic snapshot - For those of you who have never heard it...

Bob does the first set acoustic - massive applause and respect - the second set he starts in on the new fangled rock and roll he's been working on, and the audience turns venomous, clapping too loudly in protest as he's talking, calling him Judas, hissing between songs.

Folk audiences didn't take too kindly to the new presentation, and he had no guarantees he wasn't shooting himself in the foot, but he tells them to go to hell and for the band to play louder

of course, the most entertaining part of this is that we know that Bob is vindicated as history goes on, but to have someone calling you "Judas" cause you play an electric guitar, just a great moment to have captured on tape, and the energy of some of those songs, esp. Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues and Rolling Stone, that energy is so much more powerful then the studio recordings or any other live versions I ever heard - they gave it 120% and got a hell of a performance out of it.

Kiss Alive.... I'm not even a Kiss fan but that recording kicks ass....

also cheap trick live at the budokan...same thing there not a big cheap trick fan but it kicks ass

I think it says something about a band when their best CD/Albums are live recordings... not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing

It's an awesome moment from a great CD. But my favorite is Joe Strummer snarling "Singin in tune you bastards!" to the rest of The Clash during Straight to Hell on From Here to Eternity Live.

Kiss Alive.... I'm not even a Kiss fan but that recording kicks ass....

Of course it did. Many of the tracks, if they weren't actually recorded in the studio, had guitar and vocal parts that were fixed after the fact. The producers also added a lot of crowd noise to the original tapes. Lame...and I am a Kiss fan.

One of my fav live tracks is Tom Petty's Breakdown.

I hear that, when the crowd sings the whole first verse and chorus, the fur goes up on my arm.

Too cool.

Now if i can just find it on CD.

b

btw...Shameless plug for Fu Manchu. They have a live cd that rocks.

I also like:
Santana - Live at the Fillmore
But I don't think that will be a popular choice.

Jimi Hendrix, live at fillmore east, mew year's eve, 1969... stone free is probably my favroite live cut ever.

Also Frank Zappa and the mothers of invention at Royal Albert Hall... his keyboardist fired up the gigantic pipe organ and brought 'louie louie'... awesome...

the dead had about a zillion great live recordings, too, most are boots, though...

I'd also like to read an autobiographical account of his mid 70s stuff, but something tells me that won't happen. Most things I've read have suggested that was a miserable period of his life that he likely would not want to revisit. On top of that, he spent a lot of that time drugged up. Have you seen Renaldo and Clara? Not pretty...I don't think he's remembering much of that era.

I think future Chronicles will leave out much of 1966-1978 for various reasons, but I hope not.

Sorry, the correct answer was, "Live at San Quentin."

Side 2 is what seals the deal.

Second place is "From Here to Eternity."

Honorable mention to "Stop Making Sense," also Morphine, "Bootleg Detroit."

And I'm sure I've forgotten a few others.

I'll probably get killed for this, but the Garth Brooks live album is really good. We're not talking a whole lot of artistic merit a la Dylan/Cash, but if you're driving around in the summer with the windows down, there's not too many things I'd rather be listening to.

Sorry, the correct answer was, "Live at San Quentin."

The CD I have is "Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison And San Quentin". The whole CD is great but didn't think it was fair to pick a compilation live CD so I just flipped a coin.
