View Full Version : A river card he wasn't supposed to raise

This hand was played against a 2+2er for whom I the utmost respect. If I had to give you more info than that, I'd say that he is less likely to "misplay hands for deception" than most of the other 2+2ers in these games..however, he is still plenty tricky. It seemed like most of my interesting hands from yesterday came against this guy (although I don't think this one is super-interesting). I may post some of these hands later.

6-handed 50/100

Villian raises from the CO. I call from the BB with red 33. I've been raising more often with small pairs in these situations, but whatever.

Flop is 267 with two clubs

I bet, intending to 3bet. He raises, I follow through and make it 3. He calls

Turn is a offsuit T

I bet, he calls

River is the 7c, pairing and flushing the board.

I bet, he raises, I fold.

If he's great then your river decision doesn't matter.

If you thought your 3's were good, then youre bet has a very negative EV. YOu should have checked and hope he bluffs his AK. Hell fold anything you can beat and call with only hands that beat you. If you were bluffing with little chance of being good, I understand your play a little more. Personally, I would rather speand that 100 seeing the showdown hoping to catch a bluff then to just fold to a raise. I dont think it was a good play at all.

I don't know how he could bluff at this river card with overcards. Everything got home. I bet as a bluff, assuming I could get him to fold 44-55, and just maybe a 6.

Neither of them matter? I don't think my fold is -EV, but what about the bet/check option?

I really like to check/call this river.

You played it perfect. There's no way I'm checking this river, that's for sure. And if he's how you say then I guess you really can't call the raise.

BTW, "he is less likely to "misplay hands for deception" than most of the other 2+2ers in these games.." is just a funny all around statement. I cannot remember the last time I've played a hand donkish against you.

Good fold.

It was a good fold, but check calling on the river has a much more positive EV result. I doubt he was bluffing by raising you, so you were probably beat, but I dont think you should bet a hand like this unless you think it is good, and therefore call a raise. check calling gives you more of a chance to win.

check calling gives you the as much chance to win as folding, betting gives you the best chance to win another bet, and bet-folding is the optimal line vs this player here.

and yessir, plz start bluff raising me off hands on the river n.

I think your line is the best way to play it, mostly because you can so safely fold to a raise (your play looks exactly like clubs, 89, or trips)

However, if you check the river, what range of hands will he be betting? I can't see him betting A high, and there aren't really any hands he has that have a reason to stay past the turn that don't beat you at this point.

I would never actually do this, but what do you think of checking the river, folding to a bet?

I had this t9o hand 2 days ago too:

A completely boring hand, but I'm pretty sure it barely eclipsed the biggest pot I've ever won. ~$10k us.

Just wanted to brag a little, too.

I dont think villain pays off enough here with ace high to warrent a river bet doug. I really don't think you're ahead enough on the river when he calls the turn like that. I think checking and folding is better than betting and folding. The only thing betting does is give him a chance to fold a slightly better hand, which I don't think he does.

I dont think he bets ace high or any hands you beat, really.
