View Full Version : Help Dids Plan His Trip

As I mentioned in the Bison advice thread, I'm planning a trip to the East Coast to gambool/be a tourist.

After some thought- the current plan is

1- Fly into NYC then take a shuttle to Foxwoods (where I think my 2+2 drawing power is greater than in AC) stay there (or near there, since it looks like staying actually IN Foxwood is costly) for the weekend of 8/13.

2- On Monday head back down to NYC and be a tourist there. Do touristy things for a few days.

So my questions are.

A- where to stay in NY and near Foxwoods (keep in mind I'd like to avoid a rental car or crazy cab fees).

B- what to do in NY.

C- I considered flying into AC instead and playing there then going to NYC, thoughts? Are there any benefits to AC that Foxwoods doesn't have?

the subway is a wonderful thing.

new jersey blows, but ac does have more games than foxwoods, and its small nl games have better structures. what do you play?

Limit. I'm probably looking at playing 3/6 type games.

The Subway works for NY obviously- but I assume not as good for Foxwoods.

That's the one catch about AC. A- I can fly directly into it, which is sexy. B- better diversity of games.

Hmm...

Plus staying at the Borgata is a much nicer experience than staying at Foxwoods, and cheaper on top of it.

You make a good case.

I should mention that my hope is that once I nail down a location, I'd like to get as many 2+2ers as possible there. So like, this is an invitation and stuff too...

Speaking of which, I'm going to AC this weekend, from DC, if anyone's gonna be around.

the borgata is a much nicer place, and foxwoods is my 'home' casino.

check out astroglide's thread for all the awesome things to do in nyc. I haven't ever been to FW but AC is easy to get around sans rental car, and as everyone has said the borgata is pretty nice. sounds like the wait times are a little better at the borg also, and if you get sick of looking at the hot waitresses you can always slum it at the taj.

OK, so now I'm def thinking that AC is the better option. Talk to me about hotels close to AC. I'm looking at some of the cheaper options that Orbitz and Expedia are presenting me, and they seem OK, but will the haunting feeling that I'm about to be murdered float about me in those places?

you don't want to stay at the borgata? it's really nice and not horrendously expensive, especially on weekdays.

If you're not going to stay at the Borgata (you should figure out a way to get the poker rate at the Borgata), the Fairfield Inn in Absecon is the least sketchy of the cheaper motels in the area that I've stayed at. There is a sub shop with awesome mozzarella sticks that will deliver to the rooms.

What am I looking at for like 3 nights there. I was just dicking around on the online travel sites, and the Borg looked pretty costly. I assume the poker rate is a lot better.

I'm pretty sure he needs to have played there before to get the room rate.

If I were in his shoes I would either work out sharing a room with someone who already has a Borgata card, or I would make reservations that I could cancel an area motel, then get poker rate rooms at the Borgata after playing there for a day...

OK, next question.

Where to stay in New York that gives me a nice centeral location and won't break the budget.

OK- tickets purchased.

Flying out of Seattle on the 11th, hitting AC around 10:30 that night, flying back out of LGA on the 18th.

I am slightly confused... so you are going to make your way up the East Coast? I will try to make it to AC that weekend if you are going to be around.

I will be in AC from 8/11 to like 8/14 or 15. My b-day is on 8/12, so you totally should be in AC then. From there I'm going to New York to do things that people who have never been to New York before do. That's the part where I need suggestions.

I don't know much about hotels but apparently the howard johnsons in hell's kitchen is cheap and there should be many subways around. hell's kitchen is west of midtown, midtown being the very touristy times square area that nyers always avoid /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

also check out youth hostels if you just want a really cheap place to crash.

You can't fool me, I've seen Sleepers!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not looking extra cheap. Maybe the 80-120 a night range, unless in NYC what that gets me is the Hojo in Hell's Kitchen.

That would be extra cheap. There's also a HoJo on Houston (pronounced HOW-ston, BTW) downtown right by Katz's which would be a much cooler place to stay for probably around the same price range.

I would avoid Hells Kitchen at all costs, espiecially if your scared of being roughed up by a roving group of Yuppies...

Koreantown is a block (32nd b/w 5th and 6th) that has two chain hotels on either side. I don't remember which ones, but if you have yellow-fever that's a consideration.
