I think this may be an important piece in the article:
"Damon is eligible for free agency after this season when his contract with the Red Sox expires."
It's all spin for $.

I'd much rather see him retire than get four or five years from the Red Sox. Of course, my first choice would be to se the Yankees give him a $40M, five year deal.

4 or 5 years? Give me a break... he's good, but in 4 years he'll likely be a shadow of his former self.
I said that about Varitek too, so the Sox will probably give him his 4 years just to keep the fans happy.
Here's other interesting Sox news:
Olerud signed: The Red Sox signed first baseman John Olerud to a Minor League contract on Sunday and he has reported to the club's Spring Training complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
----
I still maintain that Olerud's injury in game 3 was the primary reason for the Yankees losing the 2004 ALCS. He was a very important cog in the Yankee machine.

Damon proves the old adage "better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

(sarcasm on) Oh great, all ex-Yanks turn out great for the Sox (sarcasm off)... can't think of the last one that did. Mendoza was a P.O.S.

that's a great signing for boston. you always need a guy like Olerud in the playoffs, and boston needs a defensive 1B who won't take the ball home with him.

I've grown so tired of this tomato can. He's become the "voice" of the Red Sox somehow. All he did was not get a haircut, divorce his wife, marry a total bimbo and not be able to throw to the plate. Go fu*king figure.
This is the real Johnny. Just another meatball.
