This is one of the really hard ones, but I think you've gotta fold. He could be doing this with something other than an ace, but don't you think it's more likely he's got an ace than not? What hands do you think he raise to 120 and then called your reraise to 320 with? KJ? Maybe QQ. Hands you are behind = Ax, JJ, 66 (seems unlikely). Hands you are ahead of that would likely play this way: QQ, ??

He bet 40% of his remaining stack....there's no way you can call.

You could've bet 300 on the flop in the hope that he had QQ/TT/72.

Of course, you could check and hope he checks behind with QQ/TT/72 and then you can bet the turn. Your choice.

So the overall answer to my question is check/fold?

What I think he's saying (and would agree with) is that you bet out and fold to a raise. If you're short-stacked, I think this may well be a check-fold situation, especially in a low buy-in tournament in which players would rather eat glass than fold an ace.

While the chances are good that he's on an ace, it is far from a given. Betting into this board says, "I like that ace" and may get him to lay down a AQ (if he suddenly thinks about his kicker), as well as hands that are indeed worse than yours.

It's not an identical situation, but: over the weekend with KK in the SB I raised after four limpers and got one caller. The flop came QQx, and I bet out. The caller typed, "You and your ace kicker can go XXXX yourselves." And then he folded. Did he have the Queen? I don't know, but it does indicate that if you show strength, people will respect it.

Good luck,

Sam
