Would you go visit a prison to do something like this? It sounds like as weird mix of depressing and kind of cool at the same time.

Nothing to do with this story really, but I used to get letters from an inmate. He wanted me to help him publish a chess book. But the guy was a total psycho. I worked near his home town, so he also wanted me to find his highschool sweetheart and put her in touch with him. I think he even sent me a copy of a page from his yearbook.

His letters looked like something out of "A Beautiful Mind", like when Russell Crowe forgot to take his medication. Every inch of the paper and the envelope had writing on it. He filled in the margins and blank areas with stuff about his trial, his lawyer, Jesus, etc.

I definitely would not do something like this. I'm terrible at chess.
