I have a year and a half old HP Ze4560 Laptop and the battery won't hold a charge at all. When its plugged in the power meter on the bottom right always says 0% (charging) but it never gets any charge and when I unplug it the unit immediately shuts off.

Will buying a new battery ($150) solve this problem or do I need to just leave it plugged in on the desk and buy a new laptop? I took it to CompUSA already but the bastards want $140 just to look at it. Thanks in advance.

The same thing happened a couple months ago to my Dell.

This seemed to work:

1) Take out the battery, and connect the laptop through AC power.
2) Turn on laptop
3) Insert battery

Actually I can't remember if I then had to turn off the laptop, and insert battery, or insert it when it was on.

This fixed it though. So play around with it, and you'll get it.

Hmmmm, that doesn't seem to be helping. Any other ideas?

Your battery is probably just a paper weight now. It happens. Unless you are considering buying a new laptop anyway, it seems like spending the $150 and seeing if it helps is better than the $1500 for a new unit when $150 would have done the trick.

The battery is probably dead...get the part number and get one on Ebay for $30-$50 and give it shot. Do *NOT* go to CompUSA...if you really want someone to look at it, find a small shop that will charge you 50% less...there's no reason to feed the huge corporations more money!

I do want a new one because I am a man after all and love electronics. I just have to deal with the woman... Damn, maybe I am not that much of a man.

If it was a Dell you just need to talk to an Indian and they send you a new one in 2 days...dunno about HP..(yes it happened to my Inspiron)

In general, it is the battery, but I cannot tell you with 100% certainty. The only benefit of buying one of bestbuy's rip off 3 year warranties is they will replace the battery when this happens. I think you can fix the problem by buying a battery.

Same thing on my HP. The battery was toast. Try these guys, they had some of the best prices I found.
